If you have a few hours to spend, the Cliff Walk is a much better experience than the drive for getting a good feel of the area. However, if you have a lot of time, by all means do the Ocean Drive and Mansion tour.

My first time to Newport, and I was totally blown away. Beautiful natural surroundings, and jaw dropping mansions. There's rich, and then there's super rich, and then there's as rich as it gets, and it's pretty obvious who lives here. And I can totally see why they chose this spot. It is picture postcard perfect. It just so happens that... More

This 10 Mile stretch of road follows the coast and provides beautiful views of the water as well as some upscale properties. There are several areas you can park along the road or at the state park, and then you can get out and roam the shore. Dogs are able to have some fun too!

The water is everywhere in Newport. The drive along Bellevue Avenue as well as along Ocean drive is worth taking. The Mansions, the ocean all great to see.

When you're tired from visiting the Mansions, a good option is to drive around Ocean drive. The houses are huge, and the ocean views are great (and you can easily stop the car to take a picture).

Bellevue Avenue provides visitors to Newport with a peek at what live was like in the early 20th century - incredible mansions that hosted lavish parties during the city's summer social scene. A drive down Ocean Avenue allows one to see how today's uber wealthy vacation. The homes - most of which are new and massive in size - rise... More

A well signposted 20 minute circular drive that provides a glimpse of some fascinating homes that occupy great locations. Worth a look

The long slow drive along the coast of Ocean Drive takes you through broad ocean visits, rocky coves, and landscaped private lawns. The surf comes pounding up against the rocks that dip their way down to the sea. Benches provided along the way give you a spot to sit and watch the waves break and the seagulls fly. Ocean Drive... Overall a worthwhile drive, our expectations may have been too high. Their were some short sections where the scenery was limited (no views of ocean or interesting houses). There are several stops where you can enjoy overlooks and are close to the ocean. We would do the drive again if in Newport.

Just breathtaking in parts resembling the scenery on Pebble Beach's 17 mile drive. The only downside is that a lot of the coastline is privately owned so you can't see everything. Eisenhower's house is also worth a quick visit to see from the outside.
