Worth taking in for the history and the surrounding views. Full of culture, history and beauty. This noble landmark once guarded our coastline. Now a great place to fish, fly kites, and watch sunsets.

I am not sure how long this event has been running, but I was fortunate to find it. I think it runs each Thursday night during the summer months at Fort Adams and it is free. Each week there is a different performer. My daughter and I while spending three days in Newport. The weather was amazing (august 14th). Tons... More

The largest coastal fort built on the eastern seaboard, its history included too many years of neglect after its decommissioning. The Adams Fort Trust has formed and is working to restore the fort. Part of their effort is to educate visitors. The fort interior can only be viewed on a tour by the Trust. Our guide provided the best tour... More

My husband and I decided to spend a couple of hours checking out Fort Adams during our recent mini-vacation in Newport. Our expectations were low since we had never heard of the fort, but we had the most wonderful time at this hidden gem! We arrived at Fort Adams after an easy 10-minute drive from our hotel in downtown Newport... More

We expected the fort to be in better condition and to have more features. It is in very poor structural condition. We had an obligatory guided tour and were not given time to read the information boards which would have been more interesting than the guide.

After sailing yesterday on the "SightSailer" we went to Fort Adams today to see some of the boats that were in for "Boat Week". Beautiful park setting.

Fort Adams is the most magnificent masonry fort in the United States. It is a "must see" for anyone with an interest in history, not just "fort buffs." It was designed for more cannon than any fort in the western hemisphere - 467 cannon! People of all ages will be astounded my this magnificent structure.

This is boring and the view is no different from other places. If you have time to kill ( which I find that you will have time ) stop by here for a few and check it out.

This is the third time we attempted to go to Fort Adams. The first time many years ago by boat. Great boat ride over but found out we missed the tour and would have to wait at least an hour. No self-guided tour, so thankful we were able to flag the boat and go back to Newport. Today, we arrived... More

I didn't go inside, as they were having some kind of concert that evening, but I thoroughly enjoyed walking around the outside of the fort with my family, and we got lots of great pictures, and we saw a beautiful sunset. A really nice spot to hang out, and it was free.
