Our tour guide, Jim, did a great job giving us an interesting and informative tour. He not only included a lot of information about the history of the fort itself, but also included interesting tidbits about the people who inhabited it, and even a bit of a ghost story. We enjoyed the tour through the tunnels. You can skip that... More

We took the Harbor Shuttle over to the fort. It was fun to be out on the water, and we got to the fort and walked up the dock in more than enough time for a tour (about half hour wait). The tour is an hour long, so that meant we missed the next boat, then had to wait another... More

We couldn't leave Newport without visiting the Fort, but this time was different. We decided to visit the Fort at night and be part of the haunted show that takes place there during this month. It was a fantastic time. The fort tunnels turned into this dark place which was full of creatures from the crypt. The also have a... More

Fort Adams needs a lot of work. Most of it is still in ruins. It will take a long time and lots of money to get it back in shape. The guided tour was good and we learned a lot. But if you not into history and stories, this is not for you, at least for many years.

We had seen the mansions on a previous visit and wanted a different activity on our cruise. The fort was allowed to get into bad shape but is slowly being restored. The man conducting our tour obviously was involved in that effort. He was not a slick talker but knew a lot and explained how each side of the fort... More

The history here is fantastic, take the tunnel rat tour if you do not mind underground! Great views and the coastline views are wonderful. Make sure you do visit here when in Newport.

I am not sure how long this event has been running, but I was fortunate to find it. I think it runs each Thursday night during the summer months at Fort Adams and it is free. Each week there is a different performer. My daughter and I while spending three days in Newport. The weather was amazing (august 14th). Tons... More

The largest coastal fort built on the eastern seaboard, its history included too many years of neglect after its decommissioning. The Adams Fort Trust has formed and is working to restore the fort. Part of their effort is to educate visitors. The fort interior can only be viewed on a tour by the Trust. Our guide provided the best tour... More
