We had two hours to kill before an event, and this fit the bill! After watching a short video, we toured the house with a small group. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The house is beautifully furnished with some original family and other period furnishings. DH was happy since it was air conditioned!

Wonderful historic charm in the downtown area of Murfreesboro. With guided tours by guides dressed in period correct dresses.

I took my Mom to visit the Oaklands Mnasion and she couldn't get enough. The history of the civil war, the Murfrees, Maneys and Mufreesboro is just fascinating if you are a history buff. The house design is interesting but it is a very similar design to most of the homes built in that era including the additions. Ask for... More

As a girl growing up in Murfreesboro, Oaklands was a long abandoned old house. In the late 50's the city had decided to raze the home and build low-income housing on the land. They had already built a community pool where those of us who were youngsters enjoyed many fun hours. A group of wonderful ladies, including my Godmother, Virginia... More

I love how beautiful the mansion is. Next to the home there is a nice place with a beautiful rose garden and picnic tables, which is a great place to have lunch with your family. I like to bring my children here and take pictures. The mansion is the perfect setting for taking family photos.

I toured the Oakland Mansion when i was a child. After recently moving to Murfreesboro, i decided to spend a Fourth of July weekend revisiting it. There were two other family's with me on my tour but,our guide encouraged us to ask questions. He took time to answer each and every question. He was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the... More

The home went through a number of additions. The guide will explain each addition and how the family used the rooms. The house is furnished with antique furniture of the time plus some original pieces. Very interesting. We have taken out of town quests a few times.

This home is number one on my list of favorites! The first thing I see when I drove up this beautiful drive was 30 Southern Belles in hoop skirts playing games on the green lawn , under the impressive huge trees! I was so overwhelmed! I felt like I stepped back in time! I parked and walked over to a... More

On June 17, 1915, my husband and I wanted a 54th anniversary get-away that was close to home. We thought about Murfreesboro and went online to see the attractions available. Having traveled to many states and touring dozens of historic homes, I was excited to see the good reviews for Oaklands. I have extensively studied the Civil War and am... More

As is the case with many historic homes, it was on the brink of ruin. Beautiful building and grounds with a long story predating the Civil War. Tour guide (sorry, forgot his name) was very good, said he was new but it did not show.
