In early January, my sister and I were staying in Nashville and decided to take the short ride to Murfreesboro to check out the historic Oaklands Mansion. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the home and the people who lived there. My favorite part was actually being able to go inside the rooms and learning how... More

It's amazing that this gorgeous home sat vacant for approximately 5 years and even more amazing is the restoration that has been done. This tour takes you back in time and the home is stunning. I wish we had gotten more information about the families and what happened here during the civil war.

The Oakland House is hidden away in an area of town you would not expect, but once on the grounds you difinitely get the feel of going back in time to at stately southern mansion. One of the most costliest battles fought during the civil war was fought very near here. I definitely feel it was worth the time to... More

Oaklands Historic House Museum tour is worth the time. This location is on the National Register of Historic Places! Your tour begins with an introductory video of... More

The mansion is well-preserved and maintained. I visited a special exhibition of period wedding gowns which was beautiful and presented well. Tours of the mansion are offered and the home has many antique furnishings and family portraits on display which help to tell the history of the family who first built and lived in the home. The family has many... More

In the heart of Murfreesboro, TN sits an historical gem of a mansion, built in the early 1800's, a plantation home later embroiled in the Civil War, and after years of neglect is now restored to it's former beauty. Great place to step back in time. Interesting and educational.

My wife and I visited Oaklands Historic House Museum on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 and were treated to an excellent tour by Steven Thomas. Mr. Thomas encouraged questions from the beginning of the tour and was VERY informative about Oaklands House, its construction, the grounds, the families who lived there, and the raid by Nathan Bedford Forrest who defeated the...
