My wife and I wanted to take a boat out on the water to see whales, otters, seals, and some eagles. We saw all this and more. We even saw a wild brown bear much to our amazement. Jim, who ran the tour, would have to be one of the most knowledgeable locals of sitka. He is also one of... More

I had a great time sharing the wildlife, scenery, and lifestyle we enjoy here in Sitka on this trip. I was suffering "withdrawal symptoms" when these two called me as the last cruise ships of the season have left. It was invigorating to be out on the water again and I'm glad the tour was so well received. Although Sitka... More

Our guide and skipper, Jim, found us a LOT of sea otters and whales...he figured out where the whales were likely to move, and within a few minutes of stopping to drift we were surrounded by at least 5 or 6 animals at a time. One came up within 20 feet of the boat, and several others within 100 feet!... More

I have been on sea life tours multiple times but this was the best ever!!! Because the boat was more maneuverable we were able to get incredibly close to whales, otters, seals, and eagles!! It was an experience of a lifetime! Jim Seeland was an outstanding tour guide. The boat was comfortable and a great ride! Glorious scenery as well!

If you're looking for a FAB tour - call Captain Jim Seeland. He's a marine biologist who runs this tour in the summer. Not only is the tour enjoyable but educational. We came away with a far better knowledge on what it takes to raise healthy salmon. We also saw whales, seals, eagles and TONS of salmon. The boat carries... More

If your are into wildlife and learning at the same time, this is the tour for you. Jim is a trained wildlife expert with a passion for the wildlife. You can't help to share his enthusiasm for the wildlife you see. Jim goes out of his way to make sure you see the most wildlife. Part of our tour was... More

If you want a tour with a small group of people from a wildlife biologist, then Sitka Sound Tours is for you. Captain Jim Seeland greeted 6 of us at Crescent Harbor and we boarded his 27" boat. Jim is a retired Fisheries Biologist and on the way out he stopped by a purse seiner boat and explained it's operation.... More

By chance I called Sitka Sound Tours, and we were setup with Judson. He grew up in Sitka and was an absolute wealth of information and an incredible tour guide. Our tour with Judson was probably at the top of the list for our visit.

My husband and I booked this excursion with Jim Seeland and were not disappointed. He was very friendly and informative and definitely wanted us to have a positive experience. There were six of us and this is so much better than being on a larger boat for wildlife viewing. As luck and tenacity would have it, we spotted a whale... More

Whale-watching is always a risky operation--what if the whales just don't want to show? But captain Jim Seeland has enough to show in and around Sitka Sound and his boat is smooth-riding and comfortable, with good snacks, handy binoculars, and a well-informed guide. We had what he called his "first-ever three species day"--minkes, grey whales, and a humpback--so we were... More

Jim Seeland is the perfect guide. He arranged an easy spot to meet us and took us to his beautiful and comfortable 27' boat with a heated cabin. There were six of us and the boat seated us comfortably. Although Jim had spotted many whales in the morning, they were not readily available in the afternoon. Jim was not deterred.... More
