I loved our trip to the zoo. At first, I wasn't sure what to expect but we decided to give it a shot. I'm so glad we did. We had so much fun learning about the animals. Our little one enjoyed feeding and petting the animals in the petting zoo portion. All of the animals are well cared for, the... More

The Luray Zoo is a perfect little zoo which won't take more than an hour to explore. It lacks the pomp of fancier zoos, but the animals are clearly loved and well cared for by the family who owns the zoo. I have noticed that the employees are very protective of and caring toward the animals, whom they call by... More

After seeing the Luray Caverns we stopped in to check out the zoo. It is right on the highway and very underwhelming from the outside. My family and I were greeted by the owner who was very hands on with the operation. He had a very extensive collection of snakes and reptiles and a smaller outdoor petting zoo and monkey/tiger... Keep in mind this is a rescue zoo and your admission helps care for these animals. They have a very extensive reptile collection....if you are into that kind of thing. We have a 16 year old Russian exchange student and she had a blast! It was only us and a couple of other families at the zoo. The have some... More

When we arrived we weren't sure what to expect as the outside is underwhelming. While in the reptile area, we met the owner who took time to tell us about the animals and how he gets them for rescue. He had some very unique animals and they were easy to see. He also met us outside and told us about... More

We love animals and were thrilled that there was a rescue zoo in Luray when we visited. They have some unique and beautiful animals...a Bengal tiger, a juvenile alligator snapping turtle, and a bog turtle that is as cute as can be! We are glad we stopped and our visit contributed to the upkeep of these super animals. We did... More

A sweet little home for all types of animals who need a home! We met the owner as he was tending to his residents and he gave us a tour and lots of interesting conversation. Your admission is used to care for, feed and help with maintaining this wonderful rescue zoo. If you care for animals, please visit. You will feel uplifted.

Definitely worth a visit while in luray. Try to go when they have a live "show" or feeding time. It is very interesting to hear about the animals and how the owners care for them. Can be fully enjoyed in an hour yet still worth the entrance few since you are helping support this rescue zoo.

I live about 15 miles from this small rescue zoo and had never visited. I am so glad that we did! It's small, but there is more than enough to see. The animals all looked very healthy and well cared for. The enclosures were very clean. I am not a huge reptile fan (in fact I am somewhat phobic for... More

this zoo is very 'human' in scale. It allowed the girls (6 and 8) to be closer to the animals than in "their" National Zoo; their enjoyment of the petting zoo was enhanced by the chance to feed the goats etc, and by the presence of a personable attendant; while it hurts to think about the fate of several of...
