We are rated Number 1, and have the highest sighting percentage of any whale watching boat in the San Juan Islands. We are the only smaller boat with a naturalist. Our whale watching cruise tour operates out of beautiful Snug Harbor at the end of Mitchell Bay Road. « less

My sister visited from out of town so we were exciting to show her some of the most beautiful areas in the Northwest. We were especially glad to find an affordable, small boat experience that was beyond our expectations. Captain Jim made us feel like friends and family, with just the right amount of attention to everyone aboard. During one... More

Our family of three went out with Captain Jim in July 2013. We were joined by another family of three who identified themselves as "dorcas," who had been on different tours and thought Maya's was the best. Six guests is the max Captain Jim takes which means you are able to move about the boat and talk with Jim and... More

We did not see whales, but spent the afternoon in the company of hundreds of Pacific White Sided dolphins. Beautiful animals that swam up alongside and in front of the boat for over an hour. Got a good look at them and could recognize some individuals by their markings. Captain of the boat kept us out a good long time,... More

Captain Jim and Naturalist Jeanne created an engrossing educational experience. Despite steady rain and fog, Captain Jim was dauntless in his efforts to show us birds, sea mammals and other wildlife. Both regaled us with stories, legends and history creating a memorable 3 hour tour. Boat was stable, warm and fast.

sorry for the late review, but by the time we shared the day of our lives, tripadvisor was not that popular. We went out with captain Jim in June 2003!!!! Did the morning cruise, but no good luck on the orcas. Saw lots of other wildlife, but having travelled thousands of miles to see some whales ( we´re Germans), we... More

Captain Jim Maya along with the naturalist on board Jeannie Hyde are absolutely the best in the San Juan Islands in finding the orcas, and educating all on board about these whales, AND any other wildlife you encounter including other types of whales, seals, seal lions, birds of all kinds, marine life and the Islands throughout the area. Their knowledge... More

We had a fantastic experience with Capt. Jim and Jeannie. They are exceptional people and their passion for the local wildlife really shows. Not only did we find Orcas, but also saw harbor seals and stellar sea lions sunbathing, porpoise, bald eagles and more. Capt. Jim is also a wealth of information about the San Juan Islands and the wildlife.

Traveling solo during off-season. Really wanted to tour with a highly recommended small tour company with high customer service recommendations. Captain Jim & Jeannie are the best! It was a wonderful trip - we had the opportunity to view a wide array of wild life & birds. We did not encounter orca's - however, fully understood this waas off-season. I... More

If you want to experience the San Juan islands on the water you must go whale watching with Captain Jim and Maya's Westside Whale watch. We went on our trip in early august and had the most amazing experience. We were so lucky to spend several hours observing 6 L pod orcas - which was a huge treat since no... More
