3 trips to the Menger during our stay in San Antonio. Great historical bar. This is where Teddy Roosevelt recruited the Rough Riders. There is Teddy stuff all over the bar. The balcony seating is awesome if you are short, not so cool if you are over 6ft tall. They have food available from the restaurant at the hotel. It... More

Incredible bar with loads of history attached to the Alamo. Mind the old moose head! Great people. San Antonio is wonderful too. Hotel menger is a great beautiful hotel too.

This was a great stop! The woodworking of the bar itself was beautiful along with its Thomas Edison lightbulbs and the room itself is warm and cozy. Our bartender was very professional and fun to watch as she waited on a room packed with Single Shooter Convention goers waiting to hear the Teddy Roosevelt impersonator speak. There is a display... This is where Teddy Roosevelt recruited the Rouigh Riders and it is a wonderully old and historic bar that has more history than one can imagine. Service was excellent and although there were very few people in the bar everyone was quite friendly.

A small wooden hotel bar that oozes history and importance thanks to the low lighting, historic photos and relics posted around the bar. It IS small though and the bar tenders can be totally inattentive (and in our case strangely careless putting recently washed glasses upside down directly on the bar surface, both unsanitary and not mindful of the wood).... Everyone has to experience this destination bar! So rich in history, just ask and anyone will give the "Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders" history lesson as you sit across the street from the historic Alamo. Cool watering hole - perfect for a break at this this heavy dark wood encased bar. Warm and inviting in the winter or cool... More

My wife and I stayed at the Menger Hotel for 3 nights over the New Years holiday. We live in the middle of Teddy Roosevelt land (only 60 miles from TR National Park), so were excited about the TR history at the Menger Bar. There were several tables available when we walked into the bar (it is very small), so... More

Check out the Menger Bar right across the street from the Alamo in the Menger Hotel. Sure the Alamo always gets the spotlight but this is the bar of Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. I felt a kinship with him all the way in Texas being that i live on Long Island, not far from TR's house on Sagamore... More

My husband and I stopped in just to see the beautiful mahogany bar where Teddy Roosevelt is to have gathered some of his Rough Riders. Lots of historical photos to look at and right across the street from the Alamo!

When you're in San Antonio, you must stop in at the Menger Bar for a beer. Teddy Roosevelt recruited the Rough Riders here. Let me say that again-- Teddy Roosevelt recruited the Rough Riders here. In. This. Bar. It's dark. It's history. If for no other reason, do it so you can say you were in the same spot where... More
