We were keen to try the Menger Bar because of it's historical significance, and are glad we did. The bartender was great, and we were chatted up by some of the locals (who when they heard we were Canadian wanted to talk about hockey). We tried two local beer and enjoyed the ambience of this famous bar.

The bar has beautiful wood & good drinks. We enjoyed the public areas of the Mengar hotel. The lobby is beautiful with antiques & wonderful paintings! The gardens are beautiful too. There are some great history about Teddy Rosevelt & him recruiting the Rough Riders. Great place of history for San Antonio.

Great place to meet up then head out. Can be very busy and noisy. Hard to talk. A bit on the pricey side. Not much seating. Lots of history

You can almost feel the history! It's where Teddy Roosevelt organized the Rough Riders and where Molly "Hachette" left a few marks on the beautiful bar. The downsides are that even though it has 2 levels it can be too crowded, and the drinks were somewhat pricey.

Accessible by the street or from within the hotel. Quaint little place to visit for a refreshment when in the Alamo area.

GREAT place to have a little snort or two AND then have an excuse to wander around the Menger Hotel. The Menger Hotel has seen Presidents, actors and even Babe Ruth as one time patrons. Wander around for a bit, our 'guide' showed us the large painting used in the movie "Giant" and the painting is GIANT. Heads up: not... More

This is the place you have to go to after touring the Alamo. So historic and I believe the bartender told me that all furnishings except for the tables and chairs are original from the late 1850's. It is more than worthy of at least 1 drink.

We were stay at the Menger Hotel for 3 nights & were looking forward to enjoying the famous Bar. It is great. Has an nice friendly feel, lots of history and a good vibe. With dark wood & a very neat back bar, it's one of those great bars. We started each evening there before going to dinner. Second night... More

Great old fashion and manhattan drinks right next to the Alamo. Great atmosphere. Love the classic bar feel. One more shot of bourbon and I would have joined Teddy's rough riders.

Small, dark watering hole with old world wood furnishings. Great history, and a handful of interesting period artifacts. Beers are reasonable. Park near the Alamo and pay once (around $10) then you can hit Alamo, Menger Bar, Riverwalk and a bit further walk is El Mercado.
