Check out the Menger Bar right across the street from the Alamo in the Menger Hotel. Sure the Alamo always gets the spotlight but this is the bar of Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. I felt a kinship with him all the way in Texas being that i live on Long Island, not far from TR's house on Sagamore... More

My husband and I stopped in just to see the beautiful mahogany bar where Teddy Roosevelt is to have gathered some of his Rough Riders. Lots of historical photos to look at and right across the street from the Alamo!

When you're in San Antonio, you must stop in at the Menger Bar for a beer. Teddy Roosevelt recruited the Rough Riders here. Let me say that again-- Teddy Roosevelt recruited the Rough Riders here. In. This. Bar. It's dark. It's history. If for no other reason, do it so you can say you were in the same spot where... More

Came here today to go to the oldest bar in Texas and stayed with my theme of margaritas as it was there speciality. Margarita was good and I was glad I finally came here.

We visited on a Thursday lunchtime after walking through the beautiful Menger Hotel. This truly is a stunning location steeped in history; well worth a visit. From a bar perspective, the service was friendly and welcoming and the salads were great.

This is located in one of the most haunted hotels in San Antonio, there is even a bullet hole in the wood, Teddy Rosevelt shot a bullet into the wood, apparently his ghost has been seen there.

Great history, great dry Beefeater Martini by Renee. Had a fine club sandwich and recommend it. Bar talk discussed it might be haunted...can see "ghosts" in the mirror behind the bar. Took a photo of myself in the mirror and came up with two "somethings" in the image that were not behind me. Nobody could figure what they were. Have... More

The bar is beautiful and has so much history - where Teddy Roosevelt met the Rough Riders for one. We asked the bar tender what she recommended and she suggested the Bloody Marys. They were delicious -- and potent! We met some really interesting characters hanging at the bar, learned a bit of history, explored some of the hotel and... More

Stopped in for a drink. Beautifully crafted historic bar. We had a diamond margarita and a berry martini- both very delicious. FYI no beers on tap- just bottles.
