The San Antonio Zoo was first established with a donation from George W. Brackenridg in the 1800s. Two of the first cageless exhibits in the U.S. opened here in 1929 and the bird collection is one of the world's largest. « less

Can't believe I have never been before. Admission price was very reasonable. Very clean and well maintained. Much larger than expected and was pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately, some of the exhibits were being refurbished. Glad the weather was mild as was there 4 hours. Was mistaken about the train going through part of the zoo but was actually pretty good.

Your typical zoo. My daughter loves the butterfly house and my son loves the monkeys throughout the entire place. They did do 100th birthday bash for their members which turned out to be a disaster. They even apologized later for it. Fun place to take the kids. We have season passes and will probably do it again next year too.

Really good zoo, for us Brits some of the local animals/birds freeloading off the residents food were just as interesting as the exhibits. There had been a thunder storm the night before so the weather was cool and many of the animals pretty active.

Absolutely loved this zoo! Even though it was spring break week and absolutely packed with kids and parents, we still had a great time seeing all of the exhibits. The carousel was an extra fee but gave this grandma's feet a lovely rest. The layout of the zoo is detailed in a lovely safari guide map that you get with... More

Very nice zoo. Good map, but could use more signage. Good for kids, you'll want a stroller if they are young. Many fine animals. Find the Boa Constrictor and Electric Eel! Open 365 days a year.

While they are working at it, there are still too many animals, such as their big cats and elephants, kept in small cement floored cages. It'll break your heart.

Seemed like a pretty nice zoo, lots of different animals and nice scenery. The only part I really hated was the lack of signs to the different animal attractions. I've been to several zoos and this one seemed difficult to navigate, and that's with using the map they give you. Enjoyed the elephant keeper talk, but almost didn't make it... More

My family and I have been to San Antonio several times, and my wife and I have also traveled here separately for trade shows and meetings over the years. During a recent week's vacation, my wife and I decided to visit the zoo. Now, I am not a huge fan of zoos because I believe if you've seen one zoo,... More

I'm against zoos. The bear enclosure is cement, I did not see the animal The elegant is all alone also over cement Children these days watch TV And can see the animals filmed by experts, running, mating, doing their kill to survive in their own environment. Infants are with those tablets all the time What sense is in seeing lonely... More

The San Antonio zoo is my favorite. The SA zoo is 100 years old this year (2014) and I love the old-time feel of this zoo. There are plenty of new attractions as well, including a wonderful carousel. The new cafe, the Beastro is very good, much better than typical theme park fare. The prices are reasonable, kid's meals are... More
