The San Antonio Zoo was first established with a donation from George W. Brackenridg in the 1800s. Two of the first cageless exhibits in the U.S. opened here in 1929 and the bird collection is one of the world's largest. « less

I've lived in San Antonio my whole life. I remember loving it as a kid, because as a kid, you don't know any better. I went with my husband earlier in the Summer and it was very depressing. The large animals seem especially sad. The elephant exhibit was a dry, dusty piece of land that is way too small for... More

Toured the zoo a couple of times with our granddaughter. Thought the entrance fee was very reasonable. When we visited the vast majority of the animal enclosures and displays were open to the public. It was obvious the zoo had a few enclosures under construction to improve the facilities. The South Texas heat makes it a difficult trek during the... More

Best Zoo I've been to in a while. Loved it. Considering the hot weather I thought that is was plenty of shaded areas to cool down.

The Zoo was clean and had a nice amount of exhibits. I hate that everything is so pricey once you are inside (souvenirs and such) but you have to expect that at any kind of tourist'y attraction. Overall we had a great visit... come prepared, it can get hot if you go in the mid-summer.

I love zoos...reminds me of my childhood! Went to this zoo during the week and thought it would be a relaxing fun time. The animals seem to be well taken care of (at least the ones i did get to see) most of the cages and exhibitions were emptied. I understand that the heat of the day is bad in... More

Well laid out with no cramped cages. Well cared for happy animals. Beautiful setting. Nit much of an aquarium compared to Monterey or Tennessee Aquarium but great zoo.

We had a good time taking the kids to the zoo last week. We went on a Friday around noon and wasn't that crowded. We were able to move around the park fairly easily. It was a little hot so quite a few animals didn't come out to greet us. We did get to see a lot of animals play... More

We went to the zoo expecting more than what we got but it was still enjoyable. It rained on us and there were not many places to get out of the rain, which also meant less shade for when the sun did come back out. A lot of the animals could not be seen, probably due to the rain and... More

Went to this zoo as something different to do while on a girls trip, plus I love zoos. If you aren't with kids, this zoo will probably only take you about 3 hours. I was taking tons of pictures with my Rebel, so we weren't going fast by any means. The exhibits are a nice size where you don't feel... More
