Owner description: With more than 8,500 animals on 56 acres, there's plenty of fun for the whole family. The San Antonio Zoo was first established with a donation from George W. Brackenridg in the 1800s. Two of the first cageless exhibits in the U.S. opened here in 1929 and the bird collection is one of the world's largest.

Its true the zoo has many attractions, but when you really look at the animals and habitats, you'll see a different side to the zoo. From a zoology standpoint, the concrete enclosures are too tiny and most of the animals are bored or alone. The zoo focuses on entertainment rather than the animals, which honestly takes out the fun. I've been to many zoos around the US, and I cannot say this is really a "must see." The grounds are nicely kept, but it seems some upgrades are needed.

This trip was for adult visit. I was a little let down for this town and the cost I expected a little more. The zoo had more birds than anything. The animal habitats were sorta small for some of the larger animals. The area was very pretty but needs improvements. If you decide to go don't expect a lot at... More

What a zoo! Tremendous!! Price was right! We really liked the monkey house, lorry landing, and the aquarium! The lions, tigers, wallabies, rhino, African wild dog...every thing was beautiful! The price was right!!

As members of the National Zoo in Washington DC and previous visitors to the world-renowned San Diego Zoo, my husband was slightly skeptical at visiting the San Antonio zoo. But his skepticism was unfounded. As National Zoo members we had ½-price admission and 2014 was the 100th birthday of this zoo so it seemed like the perfect way to spend... More

We visited the zoo for there Halloween zoo boo. The parking was a night mare, it took us 45 min to find parking. Also, the whole experience would have been better if they had better lighting or more decorations it was pretty dark. Over all it was fun but would have been way better if they had more activities or... More

Animals from around the globe...come study and learn with the team of experts and novices. Visit the ancient, giant turtles. Play in the Children's Zoo. Eat lunch and share with the Keepers.
