FAME is a full-scale replica of a privateer schooner from the War of 1812. Launched in 2003, our new FAME cruises on Salem Sound, where pirates & privateers have been making history for 400 years. We had a great time out on Fame. The captain had us participate in the sailing process. Raising the sails and steering. He also sets off a mini cannon which was neat to see first hand. A great day with many photo opportunities.

Trim the sails, have a glass of wine, and listen to the crew tell stories of Salem's maritime history. This 1.5hr trip was the highlight of my stay in Boston/Salem. It was relaxing and beautiful and not over-commercialized as much of Salem seems to be. For some down-to-earth history from a great group of sailors, I recommend this activity!

Nice recreation of an historic ship. Captain and his wife are really delightful, as are the crew. This voyage rescued a day otherwise full of mistakes, put a smile on the faces of our guests. We had fresh winds and rainbows with a gorgeous sunset, can't count on those, but our teenage boys and their guests all had a chance... More

The FAME is a gorgeous example of a privateer. Captain Rutstein gave an informative tour and talked about the Star Spangled Banner and how privateers were used during the War of 1812. We had an almost two hour sailing trip and got to raise the sails and operate the tiller. The Captain was at ease talking about schooners and sailing... More

We went on the Fame with my 9 year old (who really wanted to go on a FAST speed boat) and my 70 yr old mom who gets frightfully sea sick, but wants to try new things! The sail was smooth and she was not in the least bit queasy! Towards the end, there was little wind & we had... More

A two hour cruise aboard The Schooner Fame, a recreation of the Privateer from the War of 1812 provides an outstanding view of Salem, Beverly, and Marblehead Harbors. The crew is outstanding. Friendly, helpful and informative. They give a nice history of Privateering during the war, as well as a history of the Schooner Fame. The sail was comfortable and... More

On the right day, a sail on the schooner Fame is perfect! You get to enjoy a nice sail at a reasonable price. The captain gives a quick background on the boat and the Islands and settlements that surround the Salem harbour. On a sunny, slightly breezy day make time to head down to Pickering Wharf and enjoy a cruise... More

What a great boat. The crew were so nice getting people involved, like helping with the sails. Our Captain Mike was very informative and took a true interest in each person on the boat. Only regret was we did not have enough time in Salem, so we are coming back with our RV and staying for a couple of days... More

On my recent visit to Salem, MA, I booked my friend and I on the 2 hour cruise "Rum and Revolution" aboard the Fame. Brilliant weather was complimented by music, history lessons, and even a lesson on how to dance the hornpipe delivered by "Tobias". I was even afforded the opportunity to help hoist the main and foresails. The view... More

We went out on the Fame during our vacation to Salem, Mass. the first week of July and had a wonderful time. The crew were excellent, the waters were relatively calm and we got to have all of the sails up. It was a very interesting trip and would definitely recommend it for all ages except a toddler or baby.
