My husband and I visited this during the day and got to read the benches and the letters that people have placed on them. It was very moving. To read the last words of some of the people hung (or pressed) was an eery thing. We returned on the night tour with a guide and it was even creepier. She... more

The Salem Witch Memorial offers a respite from the cheesy fright attractions that make up much of the business end of Salem's witch hysteria offerings. The tasteful and reflective park is rough-hewn and serious - a tribute to the victims of the 1692 'witch hunt' that overtook the populace here. The Memorial is easy to find. It lies directly behind... more

You'll be overwhelmed with absurd cheesy junk when you visit Salem. This site is solemn, respectful, and highlights the reason you're here: to remember the witch trials and it's unfortunate victims. Spend 5 minutes and visit. more

As there are so few legitimate destinations in Salem to visit regarding the witch trials of 1692 I recommend a visit to the Salem Witch Memorial. However, I do feel I would be amiss to not point out some serious flaws in the design of the memorial, its location and some unforunate ommissions. The memorial was designed to allow for... more

We visited this memorial at night just after we finished our candlelit tour explaining the whole history. It really put things in perspective. We needed our candles to read each name and date on the individual stone benches but that just made it all the more memorable. They are located just outside a graveyard with headstones dating back to the... more

This was a very touching site. People had lit candles, in memory deceased, at each of the names. Its a shame that people go to such drastic lengths in the name of religion. more

When we stopped here and had a quiet moment it really put it all in focus that these people had really all been killed for the amusement of some girls, the profit of a man, and because of the hysteria of a community. On the border surrounding the memorial there are quotes from the witnesses such as "God knows I... more

The whole town of Salem is charming and very open-minded, and it's so nice to spend time there! The Witch Memorial is very sad, because these people were killed because of intolerance and ignorance. The women (and one man) in question were hanged and crushed in the name of "justice" and it is eerily similar to things going on in... more

At sunset, walking thru the memorial, it created a feeling of great awareness of the emotions of the soul as he/she was about to face death. The inscribed quote at the foot drifts off in mid sentence on purpose, giving the reader a sense of abruptness that ended many lives in their prime. Do NOT miss this in the evening. more
