This a an independent movie house/coffee shoppe/snack bar across the river near Brown. They show an offbeat selection of films. This is a very hip spot! Unfortunately, the film we saw this day was a New Zealand black comedy about vampires befriending humans and werewolves----just horrible! This place is a fun experience that serves an array of foods.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. There's something wonderful about being able to have a panini and a glass of wine while watching a movie in a couch seat surrounded by a small group of strangers. It's like an expanded living room mixed with a cafe and a giant screen. The biggest bummer I ever had was dreaming all day of their... More

I have recently gone to see two movies here with my husband and grown children. Many of the films are off the beaten path documentaries but some comedies are shown. Both films were entertaining. They sell coffee, tea, soda, and other food including a bottomless popcorn that you fill yourself. The chairs are wide cushioned seats. The theater is small... More

They play little gems. You need to be on the ball, things come and go very quickly. They have great special events.

i've traveled to providence many times in the last 4 years. One of the first things i do is check the schedule at the Cable Car. i love the ambiance, and the food is great. a great place to have coffee even if you don't see a movie. But the programming is always top notch.

The theater is full of big shuffed chairs and couches (with cup holders). Seats have plenty of leg room - and you can just picture yourself taking a nap. The all-you-can-eat popcorn is a draw for me -- and it's popped continuously (not bagged and brought in) and you can add your own amount of SEA SALT. It's not to... More

The Cable Car was and is a great small and different cinema showing independent films for over 30 years. My husband and I had our first date here in 1978 seeing an Italian film called Bread and Chocolate which lost a lot of humor with its English translation. I remember telling my Joe what a good time I had watching... More

The revamped Cable Car is sweet, the food is good and the film selections are varied and intriguing. It's not only a place for theater, but also for simply stopping by for food or drink. Try it, you'll like it!

The Italian woman who made my cappuccino is a genius. The films I saw here are art house all the way-- and the seating was comfortable. They ran a wonderful short at the top of the show, which is one of those old-school revival house touches I just love. There's a great deal of thought going into this place. Do... More
