this is a gem in the middle of the city. Waterfire is enchanting with great energy, music and some food. Toilet facilities are a bit hard to find. Good evening for young and old alike.

Providence hosts some very fine world important colleges and universities. As a parent of a student, I often come to Providence. I wonder why the river smells so dirty. Your city celebrates Waterfire events, centering tourism dollars around your river. As a native of Boston and New York City, I offer that our rivers do not smell. Providence and Rhode... More

The river crosses downtown Providence. It's one of the nicest things about this city. Architecture is also very interesting. Check the area around the campus.

There are more swans, ducks and even an egret returning to the waterways here in downtown Providence. The increasing parkland on the sides of the Providence River are making it more eco friendly for the ducks and waterfowl, as well as us 2 legged creatures. There are a number of spots you can go, to come across the Providence river... More

We enjoyed strolling along the river and in the evening they light the torches riverside which gives it an even more special aura.

the waterfire event is great. looks like the whole city comes out to celebrate and enjoy the spectacle. there are tents selling crafts, food and drinks. you can order a drink and walk around with it. the bonfires are amazing though the music is kind of depressing (some sort of opera). the crowd was friendly and it appeared that everyone... This was our third trip to Providence (from the New Haven, CT, area) in recent years, and we enjoyed each visit greatly. The town is a fine example of urban restoration and revitalization, with many interesting buildings, some near the river. The river as such is not beautiful, but it is spanned by fine bridges with historical markers, and walking... More

So much history.... Just walk around, please park the car. You won't enjoy it, if you have to drive. Oh make sure you also visit JWU. And have fun by the way.

For some reason, the day we visited Providence the river had about six inches of filthy water in it and smelled horrible. Not sure what was going on!

A nice venue for a walk through Providence, the Providence River bank boasts a path on both sides for a leisurely stroll. The recent reclamation of the area in the eastern part of the city has drawn new residents, restaurants and shops. New life has emerged with more people congregating for lunch or dinner or simply an opportunity to enjoy... More
