Owner description: WaterFire Providence is an independent, non-profit arts organization whose mission is to inspire Providence and its visitors by revitalizing the urban experience, fostering community engagement and creatively transforming the city by presenting WaterFire for all to enjoy. This award-winning sculpture by Barnaby Evans installed on the three rivers of downtown Providence, has been praised by Rhode Island residents and international visitors alike as a powerful work of art and a moving symbol of Providence’s renaissance. WaterFire’s over eighty sparkling bonfires, the fragrant scent of aromatic wood smoke, the flickering firelight on the arched bridges, the silhouettes of the firetenders passing by the flames, the torch-lit vessels traveling down the river, and the enchanting music from around the world engage all the senses and emotions of those who stroll the paths of Waterplace Park. WaterFire has captured the imagination of over ten million visitors, bringing life to downtown, and revitalizing Rhode Island’s capital city.

I went there on the 8th and it was absolutely spectacular. The music and the fire along the river was worth it. You almost felt transported to another place with the stars and just how beautiful everything was. They also had some street vendors with popcorn, cotton candy and other snacks around which made for a fun evening :) Very... More

What an experience to stand on the bridge in front of Jack'y's listening to the crackle of the fire and take in all the beautiful holiday decorations while listening to the sounds of Christmas. A great evening in RI.

I didn't know what to expect. I was seeking a summer weekend diversion and a friend suggested I might want to check this out. The beauty of WaterFire is difficult to adequately describe but breath-taking and "awe-full" come pretty close. It was surprisingly healing and reminded me of the magic available in the world. Truly something you want to experience.... More

This event is usually not done in the winter, but our convention people paid to have it done for us while there, the last week in November. It is usually only done in the summer, but is a spectacular sight and shouldn't be missed. They have barrels in the water filled with wood and a boatman goes along and lights... More

If you like to watch fire being lit, this is the event for you. Otherwise there is very little to see. Boats lighting fires, and men twirlling sticks with fire. Maybe it would be better in the summer.

This walking mini tour of Providence in a calmly lit beautiful setting makes this a memorable experience.

Who would have thought that mixing Water with Fire would be so enticing to bring people to a river? Only the magical and creative people at Rhode Island School of Design! (At least, I believe that is what the story consists of. It might have been other people, but the WaterFire attraction spans almost the entire campus of RISD on... More

Perhaps it was because it was late November and it was a modified WaterFire (limited to the main basin), but we kept waiting for something to happen. Never did. Colonials marched in and a couple of boats went around and around in a little circle lighting the fire pits in the river, with some music in the background, but that... More

The few times I've attended, the crowd has been really nice and not out of control. It's definitely a RI thing, but getting a Del's and a doughboy makes it worth the trip!

Truly amazed by this event each time I go. This particular visit was the breast cancer awareness event and it truly brought tears to my eyes. The luminaria lit the banks of the river and volunteers made sure that everyone was aware of the cause. Providence just comes alive on these very special Saturday's. Make sure you get there early...
