The trail was a mix of mud, some snowy slush. The lake is currently frozen over but still a great hike.
This was when we fell in love with hiking in RMNF. It was our first hike and we enjoyed every minute of it, we took our time getting to the lake lots to see along the way. We have many more hikes we want to go on and our goal is to see them all!!
If you are looking for a relatively easy hike out in nature, this is the trail to choose. It's a fairly easy hike to Cub Lake (about 2.5 miles). Give yourself enough time to enjoy the trail.
On our way to this trail we must have seen over 100 elk. The trail wasn't super exciting, but pretty views in the distance, nice for the winter I guess
I can't say that I was disappointed by this hike, but be aware that you will hike through a significant burn area after a fire last May. It was a drizzy 50ish degree day. I hiked past Cub Lake up to The Pool. The entire hike was beautiful. Definitely a must do hike if you're in the Rocky Mountain National Park.
The drive to the trail is PRETTY. A creek runs along the meadow with tall grasses' golden plumes swayed in the breeze. Along the trail, beautiful scenery of meadows, aspens, and surrounding mountain accompanies you as you hike up steep and rocky switchbacks to finally arrive at picturesque Cub Lake which is filled with pretty lily pads. Add in some... More
I did this trial on my last day and I really enjoyed it. The landscapes is quite different compared to the Bear or Fern Lake trail, so very nice to see. Around Cub Lake the trees are burned due to a fire which is a bit a pity.
Camped at morraine park, Hiked this trail from the head ( 2.3 miles ) my GPS said it was more like 2.6 , anyway the first part of the hike was a breeze. The last part was steep and very tiring ( however, i am a overweight beginner ) went with hubby and two kiddos. It was interesting to see... More
Nice easy hike 75% meadow and 25% elevation to the lake. Very nice setting at the lake. Good hike for now especially while bear lake road is under construction.
