This was a nice hike with pretty views. It did get tough in some spots and we decided to head back after about 1.5 miles because of weather.

The hike was 2.3 miles each way for us. It started in a valley, but the terrain became uphill on a rocky trail. Make sure are prepared. It gets really tough. We saw several people that stopped to take a break because it was difficult. Also, the scenery is not that great right now because the area is rebounding from... More

Pretty much a flat hike, a few rough spots, but never the less, a great spot to turn the kidos loose. If they can be quite, there is a ton of small wild animals around. You never know what just around the next corner.

We drove to the trail head near cub lake in RMNP and were fortunate to view 4 newborn elk calves. A local couple we encountered here informed us that the calves had been born that same day. They were a beautiful sight to see and we were thankful for experiencing this gift to us.

We hiked to Cub Lake then circled back passing the Pool to end at Fern Lake Trailhead. The first part was moderate with inclines, rocky & some narrow places. Passed within a few feet of several elk & had beautiful scenery throughout. Cub Lake was more of a pond? The 2nd half was an easier hike to the end. Our... More

This was my very first hike in Rocky Mountain National Park (never visited before) and it was stunningly beautiful. I was a little nervous about hiking alone in a new place (especially since there was still a lot of snow), so I stopped at the visitor center and got some advice. The ranger there advised me to do the Cub... More

Cub Lake is a family-friendly hike highlighted by the Big Thompson River and large elk herds in Moraine Park. It is about 4.5 miles round trip. The trail heads south over Big Thompson River and moves gently along the western fringe of Moraine Park. Every fall large elk herds congregate in these food-rich meadows for their annual rut. The trail... More

The trail was a mix of mud, some snowy slush. The lake is currently frozen over but still a great hike.

This was when we fell in love with hiking in RMNF. It was our first hike and we enjoyed every minute of it, we took our time getting to the lake lots to see along the way. We have many more hikes we want to go on and our goal is to see them all!!

If you are looking for a relatively easy hike out in nature, this is the trail to choose. It's a fairly easy hike to Cub Lake (about 2.5 miles). Give yourself enough time to enjoy the trail.
