Of course during the busy seasons, traffic can be a bit heavy but it's still a great drive with plenty of pull offs and side roads to go exploring.

For cars, motorcycles or bicycles - this is a Colorado MUST. Start the drive early after spending time in RMNP and Estes Park the previous day(s) so you can stop often. After passing Caribou Ranch (recording studio in the day - Dan Fogelberg, Michael Jackson, Eagles, etc.) take a break in Nederland for lunch. Continue along the highway to Blackhawk/Central... More

This was a beautiful drive and there are no tolls/fees. Saw lots of wildlife along the way and neat places to stop along the way. We traveled in winter and there was lots of snow/ice, but still maintained enough to make it safe. This is a beautiful drive to get away from it all!

We took this beautiful route to Estes and the scenic highway did not disappoint. We did hit some heavy snow during our trek but it just made the drive more beautiful! You pass through a lot of great little towns, we hope to make the trek again so we can stop along the way.

For a local flavor of Colorado mountains drive this scenic highway. The colors in autumn are amazing shades of green, yellow and red. The road is curvy in spots with beautiful vistas. Along the way are interesting mountain towns. Places to camp and hike are also available.

Don't miss this in late September when the aspen have turned gold..especially between Nederland and Estes Park. Gorgeous!

Great drive in good weather, little questionable in snow. Beautiful views and nature with possible wild life sightings.

Worth every bit of time in the car and out. Wonderful views around every turn no matter what the weather is like. We took the drive twice, once in cloud/snow/rain and then again on a sunny day. The kids where intrigued with all the wildlife as we got in and out of the car.

Took this drive between Estes Park and Golden - beautiful views around just about every turn (and there are lots of turns - not the right route if you're in a hurry). Made us wish we could live in this amazing part of the country, and grateful for the foresight of those who established parklands for future generations. Passed through... More
