What a great find! On our travels we love taking tours of food businesses and this locally owned Hamakua Macadamia Nut was a great stop. when you first enter the building there is a table full of samples...more than a dozen varieties - my favorite was wasabi. The craziest flavor as Spam! It will be only a matter of time... More

This factory was recommended over Mauna Loa because it is a Hawaiian based company all pure Hawaiian macadamias. It was very local you could see the factory floor, but nothing was happening while we were there. We saw a movie of the whole process and there were A LOT of free Samples so you try every flavor!!! They ladies that... More

We ventured North from Kailua for the day and started our day with a visit to a macadamia nut factory. It took us about an hour to get there. If you think there is only two kinds of Macadamia nut flavorings (salted and unsalted), think again. Jalapeno, Wasabe, Onion & Garlic, Butter rum, Honey mustard...and lets not forget the all-time... Right off the highway and an interesting and tasty pitstop while driving around the northern peninsula to Hawi and Pololu valley lookout and hike - a must do day trip. Lots of samples and interesting view of the process. They don't seem to mind over indulging on samples but do buy something! There are many many flavours and varied products.... More

We stopped here to buy some treats to take home! What we love the most is that you can sample all the different flavors they have! With the huge variety there will be something for everyone!! They have a factory so you can see how they process and package the nuts. We went on a Sunday so no one was... More

This is worth the stop in Kohala. We watched brittle being made through the factory observation windows and were able to taste all of the Macadamia flavors and the different brittles flavors too. There are lots of touristy items available for purchase. My teens loved the t-shirts that are available to purchase with all different "nutty" sayings printed on them.... More

We stopped off here as part of a tour - nice shop - lots of samples and bits of touristy stuff - was a bit reminiscent of the Dole Plantation on Oahu - one wonders what kick-backs the drivers might be getting, but it was worth the ~ 20 minute stop off - we were all nibbling on the chocolate... Just off the road in Kohala headed to Hawi, there is an unobtrusive sign saying "Hamakua Macadamia Nut Co" followed by "The nut house." Head up the drive and park. Inside is a retail store where you can try more than a dozen flavors of roasted macadamia nuts, including spam flavor. Continue off to the right, and you can see... More

I love this company and the manner in which it is founded: partnering with private local growers, using local products, and hiring local people. Love the flavors too!
