What a precious place! The beach park is so nicely maintained by the locals. We had a long visit with "Aunt Sandy", one of the caretakers. She regaled us with interesting tales of Manini & her life growing up on the Big Island. The beach park has a nice grassy area & safe swimming (although we didn't go into the... More

This small beach and the surrounding beach area is one of our most memorable visits to Kona. During our three visits to the island, this has been our primary beach and snorkel area. During high tide you need to be careful when wading out to go snorkelling as the waves can push you onto the lava rocks. When in, you... More

This beach has been cleaned up a lot by the local community. Water entry is possible yet when the swell is up it can be a hard ride into the rocks. Be careful timing is the key

This is one of our favorite waterfront parks to visit & snorkel at. The state has stopped all kyaks from being used in the bay, just a few 100 yards from the Captain Cook Monument (but you snorkel here for free!) The park can be quite busy on weekends (not very many parking spots either) but on weekdays we've been... More

We snorkeled lots of beaches during our 10 days here and this was one of the best. Easy access, quiet, beautiful scenery, grass & picnic tables as well as a beach and nice little pool of water tucked into the rocks on the beach for little kids. The view of the fish was as good as what we say over... More

Just a short 20 minute drive South of Kailua Kona, past the "Place of Refuge" is Manini Kapahukapu Beach - simply turn off the highway for "Painted Church" and continue down to the ocean, keeping to the right, eventually the road becomes a 1 1/2 lane paved road for a few miles, leading to a small community of homes, then... Don't waste your money on snorkel cruises to this area, you can rent equipment for less, park for free, and enter easily at Manini Beach and see more fish, and healthier reef from the un crowded side of the bay. Fresh water enters at the captain cook memorial side and there is also more reef damage. You will save money,... More
