When I visited here last year, I arrived here close enough to closing time that the staff (primarily volunteers who are retirees that previously worked in the atomic industry in NM) let me in without my having to pay the admission fee. I thought the museum was interesting, though I did study some chemistry in school so I am inclined... more

Despite the somewhat nerdy theme and setup this museum is a fantastic experience. I learned so much in my 2 hours there. The museum is not very big and the layout of the museum in it self is not impressive, somewhat jammed, but it's filled with great knowledge and most of all the people working there - either paid or... more

It's a temporary location for what is currently a small technically-orientated museum at present. The funding is in place for a complete re-build in the near future (2009?) I was hoping to see the old one at Kirtland with all the outdoor space, aircraft and exhibits. This is very confined as it stands. I suppose I went with an expectation... more

My wife and I are Engineers and were looking forward to visiting this museum. I am a Nuclear Engineer, and found the content to be thorough, technical, yet approachable to anyone. The museum is overflowing with displays and information. The curators did well with so little space. The new facility is scheduled to open in 2009 and will provide outdoor... more

I was let down on this visit before 9-11 the museum was located on the Kirkland Air Force Base and was huge. At Kirkland there was a large outdoor area with lots of great atomic weapon displays including planes, mock bombs, missiles, and a real Atomic Canon. Because the new location does not have any outside space it's a little... more

The atomic museum gives an excellent overview of the history and both military and civilian uses of atomic power. It's a great stop for 8 and up. I wouldn't recommend this for younger ages, simply because there is not much in the way of hands on activities. The gift shop is fabulous for all ages! It has the best selection... more

If you're interested in the history of the bomb (with actual displays) , radioactivity, medical uses and such, the National Atomic Museum is great. I always learn something (didn't pay attention in school) and could have stayed longer, but had too many places to go. My 17-year old and I thought it was great. more

This brand new facility displays in clear and interesting fashion some of the most notable aspects of our nuclear history, as well as other subjects of current technical/scientific interest. The museum store contains a variety of fascinating items of interest to all age groups. This is a stop one can't afford to miss in Albuquerque. The topic is one that... more
