Great place if you like to get away from it all. We enjoyed walking the beach, wading in the tide, driving on the beach, or walking and picking up shells. There were a lot of people on the beach fishing and just enjoying the beach. To the north you can see south padre island. The drive to the beach seemed... More

When for the drive to see the beach, and drive it north, to the channel at the southern tip of South Padre Island. The entrance to the beach is free, and you enter at about the 1/2 way point between the Mexican border, and the channel at S.P.I. It's about 5 miles to the border, or to the channel. We... More

This Beach is for those of us who love getting away from it all, You can enjoy, walking, playing in the tide, fishing, driving, watching birds, or doing nothing at all. At one end you can see San Padre Island and the other the lighthouse on the Mexican Border.

I was so hyped about this beach, we had been to south padre beach and thought the water quantity should be the same, this beach is more secluded, and we can drive on the beach ...what's not to like. Oh how we are wrong. Yes, this beach is very secluded, the drive through he park to get there is long... More

I went to Boca Chica State Park for a wedding. Beautiful setting. There were many people there already who were not part of the wedding party. All of the people who were already there were quiet and respectful of the service. At the end of the ceremony, when the groom kissed the bride, many people on the beach, and people... More

The beach isn't fancy---and there are no restrooms; but we head there for a quiet walk on my husband's day off every week. We haven't seen many shells, even though we go first thing in the morning; so don't expect to find much. There are no palm trees--or any other kind of trees. But, if the wind is blowing, there... I loved it and had lots of fun. The wildlife, vegetation, and fun was abundant. We saw many things we had never seen before and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Love the unclaimed beach and the serene setting. great for a day on the beach without all of the croud and traffic. NOTE* You are alone so, play it safe and be aware of the tides and soft sand.

Boca Chica is the alternative to SPI. Obviously there are pros and cons but you get a little more freedom at SPI at the expense of amenities. It's basically a beach you can drive on with no entrance fee. You can drive to the jetties and fish or you could camp out over night. It's nice if you don't mind... More

My beautiful wife and I took a day trip from SPI to the Boca Chica beach area. One can see it from the south end of SPI, but the only access is through Brownsville, Tx., about 40 miles one way. Well worth the drive. I strongly suggest visiting during the week or just after the holidays when the kids are... More
