This zoo does not have the largest selection of animals, nor is it the largest in size, but what it does have is a large variety of animals in its well used space. This zoo has many animals that are not common in other zoos. They also have a good breeding program. The children area is small but fun. Their... More

This was a good place to go, and there were lots of animals to see. The worst part was finding a place to park.

The more I review, the more I realize that my ratings are about expectations. Usually, I have a high bar for a 5 (really has to be one of the best things I've ever done), and I tend to think of a 3 as something I did that I liked well enough, but probably wouldn't push to do again if... More

This zoo has a wonderful selection of animals to see! They also have an aquatic section where you can pet stingrays. They also have a dinosaur exhibit there through July. I felt like they could do more for the upkeep of the place, though. There is a resaca that runs through the zoo and it stunk really bad - but... More

I did not expect such a great zoo! There is a wide variety of animals - tigers, white tigers, great reptiles, birds, monkeys, giraffe - and the design is pretty since it's built around waterways called resacas. They are adding some new attractions like a butterfly garden, so I will go there again next year when I visit my family... More

This is the best tourist attraction in South Texas, hands down. Under the capable and long standing direction of Dr. Pat Burtchfield it has become a world-class facility. The zoo is set up to provide a kind of natural view as might be seen in the wild. The are few "cages" so when you look from one perspective or another,... More

We were pleasantly surprised by the Gladys Porter Zoo. We visited with myself, my father-in-law, and my 2 children. Admission prices were reasonable (I forgot our local zoo member card, otherwise we would have received a reciprocal zoo member discount). The walking path through the zoo is wide and paved and easily accessible. There were so many animals that our... More

The day we visited to Zoo it was cloudy which was great because all the animals were out and entertaining. Layout out of zoo is good. Easy to walk. Had a wonderful time.
