As a local attraction here in the Rio Grande Valley Gladys Porter Zoo is the place to take your kids. Its an hour and some change away from Edinburg so its well worth the membership costs. The kids love it, from the animals to the splash park and now it has an aquarium. If you visit the Valley it should... More

We went a few hours before closing, and it was hot. The great part is that much of the zoo has some sort of coverage so you're not directly in the sun. Good time and lots of animals.

Recently moved to brownsville area found this lovely zoo reminded me Lincoln Park zoo in chicago small easy to get around.Plenty of areas to sit and relax we enjoyed so much we became members. It is not the most beautiful or big zoo but perfect for the area and nice quiet afternoon getaway....:)

Knowing how hot it was they even had a park with water stuff like sprinklers. As you go you see many animals that are well taken care of

The grounds are gorgeous and there's plenty of shade. The aquarium addition is awesome. They have a ray touch tank and plenty of aquariums to look in. Stairs/steps were a nice addition under some of the tanks so the little ones can get up and take a look for themselves. Sink, soap, sanitizer and paper towels are available for after... More

It was nice walking in! Knowing how hOT it is there they should have more water dispensers and maybe water mists! The Australian part of the visit was sad looking at the sad caged up kangaroos! Walking around u see a lot of untouched construction that should have been marked off limits better

This place is very well kept. Some areas are under construction to make it better. It is a must go to in Brownsville. They also have a new aquarium with sting rays you can touch.

I was in Brownsville for a sports tournament and was looking for something to do for an afternoon and am SO GLAD I found the Gladys Porter Zoo. Its a fairly small zoo, I believe you could take your time walking through it and see everything in 2 hours or so. I spent about 5 hours there, just meandering around,... More

What a surprise. Made a trip over from SPI for an afternoon and found this great zoo. The animals were all active and well taken care of. The zoo's breeding program was impressive. An excellent experience.

I was at the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownville this weekend, AWFUL condition of the zoo. Dirty water and bugs in the animal’s food, dirty enclosures they are in bad need of being cleaned out. area’s too small for the animals, the gorilla looked depressed, the kangaroo enclosure to small for the number or Kangaroo’s. Alligator enclosure was so small.... More
