We visit at least four times a year, plus special events. There is a petting zoo, and park towards the back. We usually go when it's very hot out and never make it there.

Having visited over 75 zoos nationally and globally, I can attest to the predominantly positive reviews of this zoo. It is very well laid out, accessible even during crowded periods, well-maintained and clean. It is small by current standards, but the advantage of this is that the top-quality staff here can concentrate on excellent care and maintenance for the impressive... More

We decided to make the trip from SPI to Brownsville to visit the zoo as I'd heard so many positive things about it. The best thing about this zoo for us were the great apes. We were excited to see the Oran gutans, chimps and gorillas, all of which are not found in our local zoo. The animals were lively... More

This zoo is definitely worth visiting! It wasn't too crowed and the weather was prefect. The orangutans are so cute and friendly, especially the baby. Try to go a little early because I was not able to see the whole zoo. We got there at 3 and lost track of time, they close at 5. The reason I didn't give... More

My family and I love this zoo! The animals seem happier and more active in this zoo than other zoos. Just a great zoo overall, I would highly recommend it.

My husband and I had time to kill before our flight back home and decided to take in the zoo. We are very glad we did. You can go through it in a couple of hours. It is very nicely landscaped with trees and small ponds and a stream running through it. It has excellent exhibits of gorillas, chimpanzees, and... More

This zoo is small in comparison to others we have visited. Small or not it was very nice. The exhibits were clean and the animals looked very healthy. The place is well shaded with plenty of sitting areas. We didn't buy food but the gift shop was reasonably priced. My only complaint was that the rhinoceros pin was hidden a... More

Love this zoo. Great cat exhibits-lions, tigers, oci-cats. Got to feed giraffes. too. Animals are in good condition and everything is very clean and inviting. Loved the birds exhitbit, too.

We have been to the Gladys Porter Zoo the past two years during June and both times it has been enjoyable. There is a nice array of animals and if you arrive at 9 a.m.,when the zoo opens, you have a chance to see many of the animals roaming in their exhibit area. When you first arrive the first thing... There are a wide variety of animals for being a relatively small zoo. For a nominal fee, you can go into an air conditioned dinosaur exhibit. This is a nice place to go to if you are vacationing in nearby South Padre Island.
