I did not expect such a great zoo! There is a wide variety of animals - tigers, white tigers, great reptiles, birds, monkeys, giraffe - and the design is pretty since it's built around waterways called resacas. They are adding some new attractions like a butterfly garden, so I will go there again next year when I visit my family... More

This is the best tourist attraction in South Texas, hands down. Under the capable and long standing direction of Dr. Pat Burtchfield it has become a world-class facility. The zoo is set up to provide a kind of natural view as might be seen in the wild. The are few "cages" so when you look from one perspective or another,... More

We were pleasantly surprised by the Gladys Porter Zoo. We visited with myself, my father-in-law, and my 2 children. Admission prices were reasonable (I forgot our local zoo member card, otherwise we would have received a reciprocal zoo member discount). The walking path through the zoo is wide and paved and easily accessible. There were so many animals that our... More

The day we visited to Zoo it was cloudy which was great because all the animals were out and entertaining. Layout out of zoo is good. Easy to walk. Had a wonderful time.

To find a zoo of this quality in a town of 150,000 is unexpected. Due to a nice endowment and good community support with all the animals displayed in suitable habitat, this zoo rates in the top 20 for the nation. Multiple children's programs occur weekly year round.

Ok so we were in south padre taking a day trip to Brownsville and decided to go to the zoo. It was much bigger and better than expected. Please visit the zoo as it would be amazing with a small facelift.

Only $10 for adult admittance-which is a great start. Parking was fine even though it was a weekend-entrance was orderly and zoo was set up very nice. Most every area was nice and clean and great for the animals. They do have a momma orangutan with a new baby and the momma only has one arm, that was our saddest... More
