The House is being restored and the trails are a pleasant way to enjoy nature who knows what birds you'll be adding to your list.
Sabal Palm Sanctuary is an amazing green place with lots of vegetation in full contrast with the surrounding region. Here you'll find what's left of the native sabal palm forest, beautiful birds, butterflies (lovely!!), insects and plants. Whether you're a birder or just a nature lover this is a must visit. The bird feeder is the perfect place to watch... More
They've done an amazing job of bringing the house back to life. The sanctuary is right on the Rio Grande and you can look directly into Mexico from the viewing shelter. There are many places to view all kinds of birds, from the migratory ones to the permanent residents. The flowering trees and plants attract hummingbirds and butterflies galore! The... More
I'm lucky enough to live here in Brownsville, and this is easily the best birding place here. All you have to do is sit at the visitor center and tally up your list. The paths are nice and the type of birds change throughout the park. There are almost always Altimara Oriels, Green Jays, Plain Chachalacas, Green Kingfishers among many,... More
My first visit to this magnificant 557 acre birding paradise was on the morning of April 12, 2013. I instantly fell in love with the peacefulness with the only sounds those of nature. Many experienced birders had already assembled on the deck outside the visitor center and welcomed a novice like me. Among the Valley specialty birds we saw were... More
I went to the Sabal Palm Audubon Center and Sanctuary and stepped into an amazing world of birders who had come from throughout the world to see rare birds that settle in the Sabal Palm Audubon Sanctuary at certain times when the north wind blows. On the porch outside the birding center is porch where birders with amazing cameras and... More
Sabal Palm has been a top birding site for years, and this was our first visit. True, it is showing some wear and tear, not least from the current drought, but it is still well worth a visit. Feeders around the visitor centre were active, with the usual Green Jays, Olive Sparrow, Golden fronted Woodpecker, and Hummingbirds (saw both Ruby... More
We saw the green jay which was a big deal for us since we are from Wisconsin. The trails were nice and not difficult. Throughout we saw other birds. The best spot to see birds is the feeders by the visitor center. Good times.
Another fantastic south Texas oasis for birds, animals, butterflies, etc. Although a little worn around the edges and going through a drought. Not as many birds present if there had been some water in the various ponds.. If you go, please consider a donation. The gentleman at the counter was very helpful. I need to go back during late spring.
We walked the trails and it was lovely. It's been some time but we either had a guide that gave us a lot of interesting information or someone walked with us. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
