The Joseph Smith Memorial Building started life as the "Hotel Utah." It was built in the early part of the last century to provide visitors with an elegant place to stay. And elegant it is - as elegant a foyer as I've ever seen. Very interesting historically - and the family history section in the ground floor is a bonus.

This place use to be a hotel so It still has the old time hotel feel to it. At the top of the building are restaurants which we did not try. Instead we rode the elevator up to get a mid-eye view of the city. There's a tour guide at the top to answer questions and give you a quick... More

This large, historical building is beautifully decorated. There is classical music playing in the background, making this a delightful visit. They also play a film about Joseph Smith's life several times a day. Do visit even if you don't follow the religion, just to see the great architecture.

The building and several items are definitely worth seeing. However, the guides try very hard to sell their religion to you, and it can be annoying. So concentrate on history and ask pointed questions which will curtail their misplaced enthusiasm.

An old building, out of time. The foyer takes your breath away and listening to the grand piano being played in the corner of this magnificent space makes you want to sink into one of the plush chairs and order a cup of tea, in a china cup. Take the lift to the 10th floor, turn right on exiting the... More

There are many interesting things about this building, tours are given for free, questions may be asked, the building is 10 stories high, on the 10th floor is a beautiful look out on the West on Temple Square and East side on the plaza gardens, building is also used for conferences and wedding receptions. It has restaurants 2 on the... More

I've eaten at both The Roof and The Garden in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. For overall romantic setting and view, The Roof is hard to beat, especially around Christmas-time. The view overlooks the LDS Salt Lake temple, and that is simply gorgeous at night (who cares if you're a member of the LDS church). The entire building has rooms... More

This is another of the buildings in Temple Square. Spend the time and tour through. It is worth it. Again people there to help you but not to intimidate or harass you.
