The block immediately to the east of the “original Temple Square” contains several buildings that most people find worth visiting. First there is the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. Built in 1911, this was originally the Hotel Utah, Salt Lake City’s most elegant and luxurious hotel. During the 1980s, the LDS Church, which owned and operated the hotel, decided to close... More

Beautiful lobby, friendly hosts and very helpful one on one consultant in the family history section. I was impressed with all of what they have. Being a newbie I appreciated someone helping me.

Just walking in is eye candy but take the elevator to the Garden Top restaurant and have a view. For a slight $, you can get something to eat and they are use to people spend little $ just to have a view of the Temple and grounds. A definite must see!

Every time I go in there seems to be someone playing the piano or other musical instruments in the lobby to create an inviting atmosphere. All the detail work makes it beautiful to walk around in and observe, and the restaurants upstairs add to the pleasant atmosphere.

Lovely lobby. Check out the listing of activities posted right at the elevators. Great views of Salt Lake City if you travel up to the high floors.

We went to a wedding in one of the Mezzanine Rooms and it was beautiful. The rooms are richly appointed and well-maintained. The lobby was even more beautiful and inviting. Plus there is a large place is the lower level where you can easily learn all about your ancestors and family history...lots of fun. Even the cafe on the property... More

The Joseph Smith Memorial Building is the grand old Hotel Utah that has been transformed into an office building for the LDS church. Some of the original glory of the original building have been maintained, but much of the old charm of the hotel is gone and has been replaced by the hum-drum of a modern event, meeting, and office... This has got to be one of the most beautiful buildings in the West! It is being renovated on the outside. It was once the Hotel Utah. We visited the Visitor's Center on the first floor, where we found a friendly staff, restaurant coupons, beautiful wall murals, and we even got a free souvenir photo taken. I am sure we... More

A beautiful historical building inside and out. Right next to Temple Square with great views of the temple grounds. The Roof Restaurant has a great buffet.

The Old Hotel Utah has been restored to it's glorious past. The mission of the building has changed but its majesty is fully retained.
