The Joseph Smith Memorial Building is one of my favorite places in Salt Lake City. I love the history, the architecture, the decor, and the ambiance of this building. The restaurants are also favorites. We recently attended a Wedding Luncheon in the Kirtland Room. The food was outstanding. The Nauvoo cafe is also a favorite--especially the pumpkin soup served sometimes in... More

We toured the building and then went up to the Garden Restaurant. The view of Temple Square was beautiful, looking down over the campus. It is very clean and the food abundant and quite delicious. The roof retracts to open sky, through which my mother launched her birthday balloon. The waiters were very courteous and attentive.

If you want a good meal and a beautiful view of the city (especially Temple Square) either restaurant at the top of this building is great. Also has clean bathrooms on the bottom floor if you need one while out sight-seeing/shopping. Someone in the lobby playing piano/violin all day. Don't miss this spot.

Have someone who knows the building inside and out take you around on a tour. The Old Hotel Utah was Salt Lake's finest for about 80 years before the church decided to renovate and repurpose the building to serve as the tourist hub of temple square. Also fun to just sit in the lobby and listen to the piano echoing... More

The Joseph Smith Memorial Building started life as the "Hotel Utah." It was built in the early part of the last century to provide visitors with an elegant place to stay. And elegant it is - as elegant a foyer as I've ever seen. Very interesting historically - and the family history section in the ground floor is a bonus.

This place use to be a hotel so It still has the old time hotel feel to it. At the top of the building are restaurants which we did not try. Instead we rode the elevator up to get a mid-eye view of the city. There's a tour guide at the top to answer questions and give you a quick... More

This large, historical building is beautifully decorated. There is classical music playing in the background, making this a delightful visit. They also play a film about Joseph Smith's life several times a day. Do visit even if you don't follow the religion, just to see the great architecture.

The building and several items are definitely worth seeing. However, the guides try very hard to sell their religion to you, and it can be annoying. So concentrate on history and ask pointed questions which will curtail their misplaced enthusiasm.

An old building, out of time. The foyer takes your breath away and listening to the grand piano being played in the corner of this magnificent space makes you want to sink into one of the plush chairs and order a cup of tea, in a china cup. Take the lift to the 10th floor, turn right on exiting the... More
