We learned that Mercer University now manages the Grand as a performing arts center and partners with the city to maintain and (constantly) renovate and repair this historic building. My wife and I attend Broadway shows occasionally and have taken the grandchildren to performances. The electronic marquee looks somewhat silly and out-of-place but I can imagine what the electric bulb... More

I enjoyed this theater very much. Beautiful, all seats seemed to be great seats, climate was comfy. Only beef I had about it was how small the seats are. I'm 5'4" and average size and my knees were pressed against the seat in front of me the whole time with very little wiggle room as every seat was full and... More

Over the years I have attended plays, musicals, and concerts at The Grand Opera House. It is a jewel in the crown of Macon to have such a beautiful venue for our enjoyment.

Went here to view The Nutcracker Suite over the weekend. Wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleased with what I saw. Even though there were crowds, my Lady Friend and I went smoothly through the process to enter and be led to our seats within a reasonable time. Kudos for the volunteers who scanned our tickets! Speaking of... More

Like many in Macon, my exposure to the opera house has mainly been to see the Nutcracker each Christmas. The venue is exactly what you expect and handles the job well. There are a few issues with obstructions, but nothing out of the ordinary. The venue does lack some amenities, but being a small town opera house, this is expected.

I'll never forget my experience there. We had, at best, average seats by the standards of any other similar venue. Turns out, there aren't any hopelessly nose-bleed seats, & the sound was flawless.

The Grand Opera House is a perfect gem. Beautifully appointed and restored, it's mid-to-large but has a very intimate feel. I've sat in the orchestra and the balcony and have always been very happy with my seat. Likewise, the acoustics are very good.
