We did the franz Joseph heli hike. What an experience... You need to have the weather on side otherwise your flight might get postponed for anything from a day to a week. Ours was put back by a day and then the tour was cut short because of the weather. That said it was still a unbelievable experience, and one... More

Views of glacier are excellent from the valley walk. Unfortunately you can only visit the glacier itself with a helicopter trip but you get very little time on the actual ice. Having been on the Columbia glacier in Canada a few years ago I did not feel the need to visit via a helicopter but if you have never been... More

This is really the only reason to come to Franz Joseph. We have been twice and each time the weather has been atrocious. Last time we did the walk and this time we were lucky in getting the last helicopter flight before the weather curtailed this. As said, apart from seeing the glacier see no reason to visit this location,... More

One of the astonishing, scenic never missed natural attractions in the Southern Alps region of New Zealand. Snowy mountains with Glaciers enhance the beauty of this site. Taking a Helicopter ride is the easiest & reasonably priced way to see bird’s eye view of this region. You must enjoy snow landing of the helicopter, of course its weather permitting. I... More

Unfortunately the glacier is gradually diminishing; can now take helicopter to walk NEAR it, or trip by road.

Seeing this attraction again was a shock. This was the second time I have visited this glacier and it is good that it is still free to visit. The first time I viewed it was in 1996 and it was with the old style carpark and I remember a lovely bushwalk and then we came around the corner and the... More

My wife and I spent 2.5 rainy days hoping for a heli hike or scenic flight view of the glacier with no success. The first day and a half there was no hope, so we hiked around where we could those days and then came back from Greymouth on the last morning super early because the weather so supposed to... More
