I did 8h climbing the glacier wiyh the guide. It was a rainy day! But that wasn't really a problem, just getting wet completely. It was my first experience on a glacier If you like adventures just do it. The colours are amazing, sometimes it seems to be in an unreal world. Don't miss to do it!

Awesome day out. Got all geared-up with supplied equipment before we left. Don't avoid this trip if you don't have all the outdoor gear. They'll give you everything you need. Short, but good chopper trip up to the landing spot. Jag was our guide, and he was great. We felt safe and under control the whole time. It's not a... More

Since visiting several years ago the glacier has really retreated up the valley. The walk is relatively easy but certainly longer than it used to be. It is still worth taking the walk if you haven't seen the glacier before, but if you have seen it before, then it is a little dissapointing.

In Franz Josef? Then you have to walk to the glacier. It's a fascinating walk towards the glacier along the river bed. Plenty of others around, but the vastness of the place meant that it felt pretty isolated until you reached to nearest point you are allowed to venture. Take time to ponder on it all - it's just an... More

I went with Franz Josef Glacier Guides - Ice Explorer so we spent less than 10 minutes on the heli both ways (no need to be scared at all!) and 3 hours on ice. The hike was moderate which means its not easy but it will not kill you. You get to climb up steep makeshift stairs, descend makeshift ice... More

Leave plenty of time to do this tour to account for weather conditions. We set out a bit late in the afternoon for the 1.5 hour walk. As it was pouring rain and getting dark, we didn't quite make it to the lookout point to see tip of glacier. Bring wet weather gear with you. Ponchos we purchased at store... More

We booked before we arrived in NZ which I suggest in busy times to ensure you can go. We checked with the Glacier tour guides the night before to see what the plan was, as it was raining all day. I suggest if you can go early in high day as the weather can change very quickly. If you we... More

The face of Franz Josef has collapsed and is also covered in rock, you can still see up to the top however the view just isn't great. Its an amazing walk though, but if you had time to only walk to one glacier, do Fox.

You an so much more than going it alone. You also get to go off track and up closer to the ice. We did the Valley Walk and enjoyed every moment.
