This place is awe inspiring, you have to make a stop. The views are superb and walks to see different vistas of the glacier depending on fitness levels. My only regret is not making better use of the tracks / hikes due to timing.
I did prefer Fox Glacier as you can get closer to the Glacier face and there...

A spectacular view of the glaciers, flying up via a 5 minute helicopter ride to the glacier mountain.
The place is fill with white and shinning walls of ice with droplets of blue colour water dripping from the frozen ice. Its so clean and the air is so fresh. Its a 3 hour walk on the frozen rivers of ice...

we took a heli ride to the top of the glacier i think. the view was magnificent. we landed on the snow and had a wonderful 10 minutes - taking photos, throwing snowballs and rolling on the snow ( we don't have snow in our country )

This was a proper tramp and we had good conditions. Not for the faint hearted and must go prepared. Some of the track was slippery and difficult to climb up the rocks. However, the view is worth the 3 hour slog. It gets dark quickly so please make sure your descent is before nightfall. We just made it back to...

We chose to view the glacier on our own rather than pop for the heli or guided tours. We went to the viewpoint after a short, pleasant walk of about 15 minutes. An additional viewpoint is about 25 minutes further, which gets you closer, but still not up to the glacier, so the extra walk may not be worth it....
