It was my first time in a helicopter, and I was lucky enough to be able to sit at the front; next to the pilot! Taking in the best views of the upper icefall and Victoria Falls, I had an aerial view of the picturesque vistas, which was very much short-lived (approximately 5 minutes flight?). The best part of the... More

Fox Glacier was a wonderful place to see and I am really happy I've done that before it ends. But I was terribly disappointed by the tours provided: - They are extremely expensive (even for New Zealand) - They pack people in groups (we must have been around 30) - They do not arrange groups according to the physical capabilities... The heli hike experience by Fox Glacier Guiding that we had was Fantastic! We were in the good hands of our guide "Beer", who was very experienced and taught us the "how-tos" very quickly so that we can move about the glaciers easily. A definite must try in your trip in the South Island!

We certainly made the right decision. ..what an experience doing the heli-hike. From the time we booked at the counter to the time we arrived back - it was 5 star day. Driving in our motorhome and watching the weather, we decided on Fox Glacier for our heli-hike. Weather was perfect and photos stunning. Our guide Kuba, was well informed... More

We appreciate you taking the time to post your fabulous comments. A 10/10 (wow) and your specific acknowledgment of your guide Kuba! Also, well done monitoring the weather while travelling in your motor-home so you could take advantage of the best weather! You nailed it. We hope that the rest of your trip was fantastic. If budget permits , do the Helihike ! It's a very a different experience from viewing it from afar. When you're right up on the glacier , you feel its breath and living energy. It's an experience of a lifetime on a glacier that is accessible . Of course ,we are from a tropical country and it was really one... More

I will start by saying we had a perfect day for this, absolutely clear and only a slight breeze so you can't get any better conditions. From the start everything was very well organised and ran smoothly. The bus ride was short to the heli pad and all gear including jackets, socks and boots were handed out efficiently. All instructions... More

Hiking in the snow-clad mountains is an experience, but doing it atop a huge glacier in freezing weather is amazing. We took a Flying Fox HeliHike, morning ride, 8.50am. We were lucky to have clear weather and no rain. We reached the FGG office at 8.30am and found the FGG crew to be quite professional, they explained the tour poicy... More

Despite torrential rain, our unforgettable 2 hour walk to Fox Glacier went ahead. As it was the only day we had to do this walk, we were very grateful not to miss out. Joe and Mike kitted us up in waterproof trousers, extra warm layers, socks and hiking boots. By the time we set off, the public path to the... More

First off, we were very very lucky. We were the only group that could make it up that day due to weather. This includes anyone trying to go up at Franz Joseph. That already made it special. Helicopter ride was much calmer than expected and went by fast. As you crouch down on the ice blocking your face from any... More

Myself and my boyfriend did the heli ice climb today - totally blown away! We were told that rain and low cloud were forecast, but that the decision to continue as planned was ours. The staff were fantastic, they took us through all our options, showed us multiple weather reports on screen and were very patient while we made a... More

Oh wow, how could we not feel like zooming up the glacier to do an ice climb right this very minute, such is your infectious enthusiasm! Great to read our changeable weather ended up behaving itself too which made the trip even sweeter. Thank you very much for acknowledging our customer service team and also your guide Dave, we'll be... More
