In years past, visitors were able to hike to the terminus of the glacier, put on crampons, and walk on the ice itself. Today, the only way to spend time on top of the glacier is by going on a heli-hike. Fox Glacier Guiding still does guided walks along the glacier trail, but these don't include any time on the... We took the helicopter ride and hiked on the Glacier for over an hour. It was an amazing view and experience. Remember to put on sunscreen as we forgot and got burned on a sunny day. The glacier reflected a lot of sun on our faces while we hiked.

Great tour on Fox Glacier. A short bus and helicopter ride to the landing spot on the glacier. Our guides Henri and Hank were fantastic. They really knew there facts and info and were fun and friendly. Amazing views and awesome photo opportunities along the way. This hike does need physical ability though. For those with not so long legs... More

The half day heli hike was defintely one of the highlights of our amazing New Zealand trip- which was filled with highlights! My 74 year old, my husband and I left mum behind for our adventure. I was very nervous due to the cloud cover, espeically upon hearing that the tour before ours had been cancelled. But the fog lifted... More

This is a must if visiting Fox glacier yes it is a bit expensive especially if back packing but it is worth it as you get a helicopter ride to and from the glacier and about 2hr guided walk around the glacier and if conditions are right a walk through the glaciers but be prepared to get wet. The tour... More

While very expensive for a family of 4 we will remember this experience forever!! We lucked out with the weather. Our guide Graza was excellent. He was very friendly and took us quite far up the glacier as we were a fast group! We went into the glacier and saw the blue ice...lots of time to take some amazing photos.... More

Our family of 2 adults and 2 children (ages 11 and 12) did the heli-hike on Christmas Eve and loved it. The staff were very professional and ensured we all had adequate gear for the glacier. The helicopter experience was great fun. On the ice we were guided through a range of features and we could get excellent photos. Towards... More

This was one of the highlights of our trip to the South Island. Our guide Kat was really nice and told us lots of interesting facts about the glacier. The photos we took at the glacier are some of my favourites, it's much bigger than I expected and we walked around for two hours enjoying the amazing formations on the... More

We went on a 2-hour hike to the foot of the glacier and were treated to plenty of fascinating details about the history of Fox Glacier and its surroundings. It was awesome to be hiking along on a sunny day and to come around the corner and see big chunks of ice in the river! Then, in the parking lot... More

We were lucky enough to do the Chancellor's Hut tour with this company AND with glorious weather. The trip included glacier walking, climbing with ropes and ice picks, and summiting a peak. Our guides were fantastic - knowledgeable, extremely competent and loads of fun. They gave us a lot of confidence on the ice with excellent equipment and great coaching.... More

Hi Patty, Paul, Heidi and Hilary, So glad to read that the "moons aligned" for your Chancellor trip. That place is just special, special, special isn't it! The guides love any chance they can get of getting up there to show off it's raw and stunning beauty to our visitors and use their extensive skills. The Keas didn't get close... More
