We, my husband and I ,both early 60s did the Fox trot glacier walk last march. At the start I was apprehensive, but my fears just disappeared in the excitement of seeing this geological wonder. The journey to the Glacier itself was worth it. We had gone the previous evening and inquired about the trek. The girls are kind and... More

We were very lucky to do the all trip that day because it barely stopped raining for two days. In the morning, we though we wouldn't be able to flight and walk on the glacier. We called Fox and they talled us to come the afternoon as planned. We thus had lunch i and at around three push the door... More

New Zealand has a lot to offer the intrepid traveller, but the Flying Fox heli hike was an absolute highlight. A helicopter ride and a hike on a glacier, doesn't get much better!

Yes. It's expensive. $400NZD. Once you get over this, and get on the trip you will understand. At the time of writing, helicopter was the only way to get ONTO the glaciers so it's this or nothing if you want to experience what it's like to be on a glacier (at least in AUS/NZ). Amazing experience. Professional guide. Awesome (short... More

After reserving a heli-hike space at Franz Josef, we were sad to be told that they were canceling all trips due to strong winds. Apparently this is common on Franz Josef. Thankfully, we called Fox Glacier Guiding, and they explained that the weather can be terrible at Franz Josef at the same time it is incredible at Fox. So, we... More

If you have never been to or, especially, on a glacier, then this experience is worthwhile. The helicopter ride is fun (and quick), the glacier is impressive. The guides make your life easy by creating steps in the ice anywhere there is a steep incline. We ventured into some ice caves, which was pretty cool. The whole trip is organised... More

Walk from the terminal carpark to the glacier with experienced guides and special hiking equipment. Spent over 90 minutes on the glacier. Fantastic experience.

An experience to remember for the rest of my life. I've walked and snowboarded on glaciers before but this was something completely different. Short helicopter ride of 10 minutes and 3 hours exploring the glacier in crampons. They'll give you kit - don't be proud, take it, it works. The guides were approachable, friendly and know their stuff - listen... More

Very glad we opted for a guided tour of the glacier because there had recently been a rock slide and part of the path was closed off for regular hikers. It made me feel better knowing I was with guides who would know what to do in the event of a slide or other problem. It was a steep climb... More

A helicopter flight to spend nearly 2 hours on the glacier is the best option to experience the glacier from up close. Great views on the way and interesting commentary while walking on the ice by enthusiastic guide Kat. Even though it was overcast only 2 layers of clothing (outer layer needs to be waterproof) would be enough. Many photo... More
