Go and see for yourselves. You won't be disappointed. Amazing driftwood, seals, ver few people and a sea so blue and golden sands...

We headed for this beach towards the end of a day in Fox Glacier township. You will need a car (or if you are exceptionally fit you can use a mountain bike). The drive takes you past Lake Matheson and then along a narrow and winding road for about 10 km till you reach a car park. From the car... More

It would have been handy if a signpost had indicated that there was a relatively long beach walk as part of the tramp. We kept feeling that we had somehow taken a wrong turn. On the way back someone had kindly put a bunch of white pebbles via the exit from the beach which was handy because several of the... More

Now - there are beaches and then there is Gillespie Beach - not a "beachy" type of Beach mind you as this one is covered in stones - large and small - all nicely rounded by the ocean - great! But that is only one reason to go there - the walkways and the seal colony would be the more... More

This beach is at the end of a 12km gravel road, but well worth the dusty drive. It's a rock- and driftwood strewn beach, and is really beautiful. Go searching for the perfect rock to take home, or driftwood to make a beach fire.

This beach has black and perfectly round rocks everywhere. There was very little sand but the sand I did see was black. The 30-45 minute walk to the lagoon was worth it. It was really cool and not at all what we expected. We didn't make the 3.5 hr walk to the seal beach. The beach was not really for... More

Reading the spiel gillespies Beach seemed a must do. Wrong. The drive in was long and winding on a gravel road and then when we got there apart from a walk along an uninspiring track there was nothing. The old mining dredge was interesting but not worth the drive

My husband and I were there in October and simply loved it. If you are in Fox Glacier, this is a nice side trip especially if you love the ocean. There were no sandflies.

Very barren beach with wild sheep sunning themselves on the beach. Pretty drive to get to Gillespies Beach.

Loved walking around the lagoon, and along the beach with those amazing, powerful West Coast waves pounding in.
