Great place to see what New Zealand's coastal marine life was like before humans arrived. Well worth having a snorkel or even better a scuba dive to see huge snapper, crayfish and moki mooching around.

This is a lovely spot a shortish drive north of Auckland and on a sunny day with the tide out the water is very inviting. We visited in January on a hot 28degree day but the water was very cold so without a wetsuit don't bank on being able to stay more than 30 minutes. If you're an Aussie like... More

Goat Island is a quick escape from the busy city. On a nice sunny day its the perfect place to go snorkeling and crab hunting in the rock pools. You can hire wetsuits and snorkeling gear possible kayaks if your lucky!

Packed with Togs, snorkels, picnic blankets and lunch we drove the short 1.5 hours from Auckland to the Goat Island Marine Reserve. Am VERY happy that we left early as parking is an absolute premium at the reserve, many people having to park well away from the reserve. Because of January being high tourist time in New Zealand and our... More

Once we arrived at the Centre, we were met by Peter Crabb (Discovery Centre Manager), Tony Enderby and our Leo Zamora, Phd student from Chile, whose study is Sea Cucumber Aquaculture). Absolutely teaming with tourists. Parking difficult and then when you find one and head to the beach it was swarming with people. Bodies everywhere sunbathing and in the water. The snorkeling appeared a little dangerous as people just climbing off the rocks and into the water. There was no lifeguards on duty. With so many people churning up the water... More

We bought a cut price token for Goat Island Hire for 5 for wet suit, snorkel and flipper hire and a glass bottomed float. I've never seen the huge variety of fish and sea critters up so close. Great experience for all but one of us who managed to get sea sick from snorkelling... Not saying who

Just 1/1/2 hr drive from Auckland and you can snorkle or dive straight from the beach in a wild marine reserve. Experience Incredible New Zealand fish life close up as here the fish know you wont harm them so you can hand feed them, get surrounded by great schools of huge snapper, mowmow, parrot fish and more, go under and... Goat Island is very easy to access and great for all of the family. Fascinating to be in the water with the fish we like to eat and you can't touch them. Super experience for all and well worth the visit.

We were surprised at the small" undertow" at the beach so little kids would have to be careful. Would thoroughly recommend the Glass bottom boat tour to see the amazing fish in the crystal clear water .Snorkles and masks and food is needed as there isn't a shop there.
