Having grown up on the continent the open sea is always something I had tremendous respect for, and a fair bit of fear. However, diving is something that always fascinated me and I like being pushed out of my comfort zone. So as a birthday treat for my 14-year old daughter I booked us two on a discovery dive with Tairua Dive and Marine. The experience was fantastic! Alex and Mike are awesome, friendly, helpful, and make everything seem really easy! Best of all we always felt totally safe! Even though during the first session my daughter had heaps of problems with her goggles constantly filling up with water, Mike's approach kept her calm and able to deal with the situation as practiced. Once in the sea, the whole experience was spectacular. We could not stop taking pictures of the fishes, each other, and the water surface from below. It was amazing!!!! The best bit of all was that the dives count towards the PADI licence should we wish to continue....suffice to say that I was emailing Alex and Mike the day we got back home to book in our next session. Lovely people, great gear, very safe, and amazing location!

I've had a couple of dive trips with Tairua. Alex is great, always friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. The shop is right on the water and the trips to the dive sites are short. The Aldermen islands are their star sites, good vis, and apparently the water is a couple of degrees warmer due to the current! Saw plenty of rays, kingfish, blue maomao etc. You step right off the boat to the deck of the shop, easy gear clean, and tea and biccies! Easy parking, cafe across the street, views to die for.

I recently decided to upgrade my padi dive certification to Rescue Diver and choose to do my training with Tairua Dive and Marine. My first impression was that they were extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and personable. I had some trouble at first getting the padi online course system to work at home but Alex in the shop was able to guide me step-by-step over the phone through the enrollment process. Then I drove down for a weekend to do my practical instruction with Mike Harris, the instructor. I really liked his instruction style. Every topic that he covered was clearly explained and professional but also was really entertaining. His jokes and personality made the course really fun and exciting. Finally, we went out for a dive to the Alderman Islands where we put into practice all the concepts we had gone over at the shop. The dive itself was great; there was good visibility and heaps of fish life. There was also a fair bit of chop that day (you can't control the weather I guess), but we were able to pull into a protected cove and do the rest of our training on the surface in between dives. On the whole, I'd say it was one of the best experiences I have had so far with a dive operator. I was really pleased at how the weekend went. It was very enjoyable and I'll definitely be coming back to Tairua Dive and Marine for more diving soon! Thanks for the great instruction and experiences!

Friendly, knowledgeable staff, who are very familiar with the local dive sites and conditions. A good range of hire equipment and air fills at competitive prices.

Great little shop well placed and located. Really friendly people willing to give advice. Bait and Ice a plenty! And a small array of fishing tackle.
