Owner description: Briar Ridge Vineyard is a 5 star winery nestled in the Mount View region of the Hunter Valley, a well renowned viticultural area. Originally owned by Murray Robson, the vineyards were first planted in 1974, and known as the 'Squire Vineyard'. This Iconic Hunter Vineyard was purchased in 1988 by Dr John Davis which makes up one third of his vineyard resources located throughout Australia which also includes Orange in Central NSW and Wrattonbully on the Limestone Coast. We are one of the leading producers of iconic Hunter Valley wines and have been awarded numerous accolades on both the National and International Wine Show Circuit. This is reinforced by our 5 star rating awarded by Australia's renowned wine critic James Halliday for 3 consecutive years running 2012, 2013 & 2014. Our Cellar Door is located two and half hours north of Sydney and is open 7 days a week. Offering the full spectrum of wine tasting and sales, we are recognised for our long history in the region and our well established wine club (find out more here). We have recently appointmented Gwyn Olsen as our new Chief Winemaker, a rising star of the wine industry. Gwyn studied Oenology at Roseworthy University in Adelaide, graduating in 2005, completing her first vintage in France, with a further six in New Zealand, and three in the Hunter Valley. She has recently joined an elite group of winemakers after being named DUX of the Australian Wine Research Institute, Advanced Wine Assessment Course 2012. Gwyn also joins the talents of Living Legend 'Karl Stockhausen', a winemaker with over 50 years of experience in producing iconic Hunter Valley wines. We take huge in acknowledging Karl's success by showcasing a range under our brand which typify traditional Hunter Styles; the Karl Stockhausen Signature range includes styles such as Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz. In 2007, Karl was officially made a 'Living Legend' one of the six inaugural recipients of the Hunter Living Legends Awards. Briar Ridge is primarily a Cellar Door and online operation, although our wines are distributed to key independent retail outlets as well as on premise venues across NSW.

Gwynn is the new winemaker and she is certainly making a difference. A new chardonnay, a new semillon, a new HRB red are all quite unique, but are good. Highly recommended.

Went to a wedding here it was beautiful and the staff couldn't be nicer, I ended up asking the bride if they were friends because they were that nice - food was great and we are going back again for some more of their wine and bubbly. Romantic setting cant wait to see the photos!

My husband and myself visited Briar Ridge Vineyard last Friday. What a beautiful place set in bushland, not a lot of people would know it was there. The wines were magnificent, the service at the cellar door was great. Would recommend to anyone who likes good wine.

Briar Ridge Vineyard was our first and only stop on a recent trip to the vineyards. The wines are great and the staff very friendly. Our two year old was made welcome and there was a basket of toys to keep him occupied. We enjoyed a bottle of Semillon with the antipasto and cheese platters from the deck overlooking the... More

You can go all over the Hunter Valley Wine region and certainly get to sample what it offers in the usual way of standing in front of a counter at different wineries or you could just go to Briar Ridge and be truly welcome and treated like an important prospective buyer by having someone sit with you at a table... This smaller winery is situated slightly away from the main wine-growing area of the Hunter Valley, but is worth a visit. It produces high quality premium and ready-to drink wines.

Another quality winery in the Hunter Valley on our full day tour. Friendly service and would recommend to others and would go back ourselves the next time we are in the area.

One of my favorite wineries of all. The wines are beautiful, and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The restaurant within the winery is superb. A must visit when you are in Hunter Valley. http://www.briarridge.com.au/
