Las Tangaras was definitely the highlight of our Mindo visit. You really feel like you're off the grid after hiking in and crossing the river. But despite that the lodge is really comfortable and it's a delight just to sit there and watch the 17 types of hummingbirds swarm the feeders. We ended up camping at a gorgeous spot down... More

Excuse the long review, but it's worth it! I visited Las Tangaras intending to stay for the day, and had the morning all to myself wandering peaceful and beautiful and well-marked trails, swimming in natural pools, before lunch with (current guardians) Marc & Eliana. We had intended to see the cock-of-the-rock lek in the afternoon before I left, but torrential... More

Great place to hike and look for birds. Be sure to go with someone who can identify the birds as there are so many different ones that it is mind boggling.

I had a fantastic stay at Las Tangaras!! It's located in a beautiful spot at the bottom of the ridge just outside of Mindo. It's such a nice get away from the craziness of the world. Be prepared for a 40ish minute hike in to the lodge that can be muddy but not particularly tough. The lodge is simple and... More

Probably the best place in Mindo to see the cock of the rock lek, but also the hummingbirds are more plentiful, diverse and come closer than anywhere else in Mindo. It has a real jungle lodge feel, but is way cheaper than most of those. Only reachable via a 45 minute trail, you wake up deep in the forest. All... More

If you want a drive up lodge with multiple star accommodations go elsewhere. If you want a simple and clean stay this is a great value. Be prepared for a walk into the property that winds down through a recovering forest across a bridge that satisfies basic requirements. There are hummingbird feeders on the porch, and multiple trails up hillsides... More

You can camp or stay in the cabin on site. go to sleep to the sound of rainfrogs, wake up to all the birds. dozens of hummingbirds at close hand, a cock of the rock lek plus all the other unexpected goodies the... This remote reserve offers up bird life galore, Andean Cock of the Rock, hummingbirds etc, great walks and fabulous hosts. A huge thanks to Jo & Hamish. We strongly recommend this reserve but do remember to fully charge your camera as no electricity on site. We wished we had stayed longer, next time maybe....

This reserve is the most peaceful place I have visited to date. It is a 2 km walk from the road, so the only sounds you can hear are those of Mother Nature herself. It is near to a river, which sang me to sleep each night, and each nap. The hummingbird attaction is astounding, since the biologists there are... More

The walk from the road to the lodge is well-worth it. You can see Cock of the Rock lek display at dawn or at dusk, which is another 20 minute walk from the lodge, but well worth it. Rubber boots or shoes you don;t mind getting muddy are essential. Multiple swimming areas and diverse habitats for viewing many types of... More
