I was able to use Marcelo for a few days in early June, just before the busy season starts. He has an amazing ability to spot and identify, and his English is really exceptional for a local guide (very easy accent). I think a few others have commented about his personality as well, he has quite a subtle sense of... More

Marcelo took me and a colleague out on a morning walk in Mindo in mid March and his skill, personality, and attitude was exceptional and made our walk one of the most enriching I have had recently. He is able to hear, spot, and share a complete range of birds with the skills of a great naturalist and scientist. I... More

Cheri and I spent 6 days birding with Marcelo (and 1 day at his suggestion with Pablo Caiza at Cabanas San Isidro.) Without his expert guidance we would not have seen much less identified a third of the birds we eventually logged. He was always on time even when he had to come from Mindo to pick us up in... More

If you want to see many more birds than you'd probably see on your own, go birding with Marcelo. He is an excellent bird guide and can lead you through many of the best birding areas in and around Mindo, Ecuador. Marcelo is great at describing where to look and never gets impatient. He is quite talented at reconizing birds... More

My husband and I are staying at Hostal Rubby with birding friends. A group of us went out with Marcelo yesterday. We had an amazing time. The scenery was amazing and Marcelo was so knowledgable. He had a telescopic scope that allowed us to see the birds so close up. Marcelo is able to spot birds where no one else... More

Marcello Arias is associated with Rubby's Hostal (great place, see my review) in Mindo, Ecuador where I was staying so that's how I met him. He can take you on many different bird-watching trips in the Mindo vicinity (he has two relatives who are also bird guides so he really knows his stuff). After spending 9 days with the "San... More

Marcelo was our bird guide for two weeks in Ecuador last February, 2014. We saw almost 300 species in a trip that went from the top of the Andes to the Amazon and back. Marcelo found lots of birds using his scope and his knowledge of the calls. His english is good and he is an excellent and safe driver.

I have used Marcelo's many times over the last few years. He is considered by most people as one of the best guides the Mindo area and I very much agree. He is extremely knowable in the birds of Ecuador , buy sight and sound. And he knows of many of the best places to go birding in general or... More

We stayed at Rubby Hostal which organized for us Marcelo for bird watching. Marcelo comes work a telescope that enables you to see many specious of birds from very close and even to make photos via the telescope. He has unbelievable instincts to capture small or big birds that are far away. He is experience, knowledgeable and very nice man.... More

I will remember today for the rest of my life. I never thought I'd see the birds in National Geographic! I hired Marcelo yesterday, and this morning, he met me at my hotel with a scope and binoculars. We walked through the beautiful jungle/forest on a dirt road, chatting amiably all the way. During our time together, he heard and... More
