Marcello Arias is associated with Rubby's Hostal (great place, see my review) in Mindo, Ecuador where I was staying so that's how I met him. He can take you on many different bird-watching trips in the Mindo vicinity (he has two relatives who are also bird guides so he really knows his stuff). After spending 9 days with the "San... More

Marcelo was our bird guide for two weeks in Ecuador last February, 2014. We saw almost 300 species in a trip that went from the top of the Andes to the Amazon and back. Marcelo found lots of birds using his scope and his knowledge of the calls. His english is good and he is an excellent and safe driver.

I have used Marcelo's many times over the last few years. He is considered by most people as one of the best guides the Mindo area and I very much agree. He is extremely knowable in the birds of Ecuador , buy sight and sound. And he knows of many of the best places to go birding in general or... More

We stayed at Rubby Hostal which organized for us Marcelo for bird watching. Marcelo comes work a telescope that enables you to see many specious of birds from very close and even to make photos via the telescope. He has unbelievable instincts to capture small or big birds that are far away. He is experience, knowledgeable and very nice man.... More

I will remember today for the rest of my life. I never thought I'd see the birds in National Geographic! I hired Marcelo yesterday, and this morning, he met me at my hotel with a scope and binoculars. We walked through the beautiful jungle/forest on a dirt road, chatting amiably all the way. During our time together, he heard and... More

On a recent trip to Mindo we had the pleasure of having Marcelo as our birding guide for two days. I can't say enough about his skills as a guide - he could spot, call, and identify any bird we came across and his ability to call in birds by whistling their calls is unbelievable. He had his own vehicle... More
