We took the 1:30 boat ride with Captain Rick. He knew a lot of information about the harbor. This was a fun and informative harbor tour of New Bedford and Fairhaven Ma. We also saw a seal swimming in the harbor.

Be sure to get a reservation ahead of time as this boat only takes about 15 people. An hour long tour with a wonderful talented man who talked the entire hour about the history of New Bedford, the various fishing boats and how they caught their fish, stories of how someone rose from lowly job to owning 40 ships, who... We took the 3:00 PM tour with Captain Rick. He was very informative and enjoyed answering any questions. The tour lasted about 75 minutes. We went through the hurricane barrier into Buzzards Bay and in front of Fort Phoenix. We arrived in New Bedford mid-afternoon on a Sunday and after checking into our hotel decided to go for a walk. We headed to the Waterfront Visitor's Center on Pier 3 hoping to catch an afternoon harbor tour. We were lucky to get on the "Acushnet" for the 4:30 PM tour. We vsited here recently with our kids and took a tour of the harbor. It was nice to be up and close of the fishing vessels and to learn about them. Tour was about 70 minutes, took us otuside the dike, over to fairhaven and back around. Nice day out of the water...
