The Military Museum is a New Bedford gem, and one to absolutely witness in person

The Military Museum at Fort Tabor Park is an awesome and fascinating emporium of historical items that one will not see elsewhere.

Nice place to take a walk, picnic, has beaches, fishing pier, good wind near ocean to fly kites, Fort itself was partially designed by Robert E. Lee. Unfortunately, the Fort is not open to the public. Concession stands and rest rooms open during summer months. It is located adjacent to the New Bedford sewage treatment plant and odors are sometimes... More

The old coastal defense fort and gun emplacements are very interesting and dominate a strategic point, complete with a lighthouse on top. A bit of a disappointment that the fort is not actually open, but hopefully restoration projects underway, according to the sign, A beautiful location for picnicking, walking and swimming. Don't miss the nearby military museum.

Great area on the ocean, nice cool breeze, fun place to bring the kids, walk your dog, or have a picnic. Lots of kite flying, visit the Military Museum and donate a couple of bucks to see all the donations made by local service members, an extended pier to take a walk, enjoy the local residents of various nationalities.

What a gem, just happened to be cruising around and came across it...Awesome fort with an amazing small military museum (open daily 1-4) Plenty of beach, a nice long pier...Views of the Butler Flats light house... and plenty of trails and dog friendly to beat. Give it a shot!!

The park is usually clean, and has a nice set up of swings and things for kids to play with. There are times when it can get quite busy, and when the older kids start playing on the younger kids swing sets, it can be a little discouraging for the young ones to enjoy themselves. This is my only reason... More

This vast park juts out into the ocean waters of Buzzard Bay providing breathtaking views of the surrounding area. It includes the original Fort Rodman, a long pier for walking and the Fort Taber Military Museum.

The park was great! It was very clean and in good shape. And there are two bunkers right next to it. There is also a fort which you can't get in to. Didn't see the museum unfortunately, but everything else was great!

This place has been fixed up in recent years, which I think has been really great! Our grandmother used to bring us here back when the beach was free for everyone. I think there are still areas that are free, and that you can grill at, but I am not sure which ones. There is still a nice playground area... More

This review is more for the Fort Taber Military Museum, than it is for the park and the fort. The museum is in a building and has a top notch collection of military items from all of America's armed conflicts. It is also a tribute to our veterans, and those in particular from New Bedford. Robert Bromley does an outstanding... More
