Ft. Taber is a great place to go for long walks, historical atmosphere and a very nice military museum. All are free, as well as the parking. Just note that the parking lot is rather small and fills up quickly in warmer weather. This is a great place for families, too.

This is a great place to relax by the ocean. Spectacular views, quiet beaches, picnic tables, bathrooms, and playground. Lots of grassy areas and a nice place to take a stroll or fly a kite. There is also an old fort you can check out. There is a charge for parking. You can also visit a terrific military museum located... More

This is a great large park with interesting fort, great for exploring, beautiful views into the bay. Plenty of parking and clean bathrooms. There's also a nice little beach area for the kiddies. Beautiful wild flowers everywhere and plenty of paths for walking and biking. Also enough benches to sit a while and take in the view. Also nice war... More

Great museum and tours around the old, abandoned fort. Seats so you can watch the ships sail past. Great location for a day at the beach or a picnic in the park.

Nearby beaches totally packed. Lots of seaweed and rocks. The fort itself is a bit disappointing. I mean, it's still there, along with some WWII-era construction, but it's not much of a tour. I would still say if you've not seen any of the other Civil War forts, it's worth a look.

Fort Taber and the Military Museum are treasures and worth spending some time, especially on a nice warm, sunny day. I love old forts and this one is intriguing. I understand that eventually the fort is going to be open more frequently. Walking along the pier or the open fields that give you great views of Buzzards Bay is guaranteed... More

The Military Museum at Fort Tabor Park is an awesome and fascinating emporium of historical items that one will not see elsewhere.

Nice place to take a walk, picnic, has beaches, fishing pier, good wind near ocean to fly kites, Fort itself was partially designed by Robert E. Lee. Unfortunately, the Fort is not open to the public. Concession stands and rest rooms open during summer months. It is located adjacent to the New Bedford sewage treatment plant and odors are sometimes... More

The old coastal defense fort and gun emplacements are very interesting and dominate a strategic point, complete with a lighthouse on top. A bit of a disappointment that the fort is not actually open, but hopefully restoration projects underway, according to the sign, A beautiful location for picnicking, walking and swimming. Don't miss the nearby military museum.

Great area on the ocean, nice cool breeze, fun place to bring the kids, walk your dog, or have a picnic. Lots of kite flying, visit the Military Museum and donate a couple of bucks to see all the donations made by local service members, an extended pier to take a walk, enjoy the local residents of various nationalities.
