Small but Sweet

Little beachfront- but nice bathrooms etc to clean off after being in ocean. Cool treed area makes for some fabulous photo ops.

While we had heard the snorkeling here was the best the south shore had to offer, we found Ulua beach was small, crowded, and the snorkeling to be lackluster. While we did see a turtle, the water seemed colder here, and there was hardly as much room for sand and space as Wailea or Big Beach had to offer. After... More

We stayed at the Grand Wailea, and wanted to do a snorkeling excursion beyond the hotel's beach. Hopped into the car and drove less than 5 minutes to Ulua Beach (probably could have walked). The beach has pretty ample parking, shady and sunny spots, and a nice cove to snorkel/swim at. We saw lots of fish, especially around the reef... More

A bit more reclusive than say Wailea but more snorkel friendly. Shaded areas more prevalent. Large rocks protruding from the sand gives this beach a "wild" flavour.

Walkable from any of the Wailea resorts or residential areas. Clean and pretty beach. The paved walking path that goes along the waterfronts of all the resorts passes through this beach. There's a small parking lot, restrooms, and a shower for rinsing off sand. You can also walk to Shops at Wailea or any of the restaurants in the resorts.

Two people drowned off this beach this year, one in February and one in April. The snorkeling is Very good there and lots of black rocks attract sea.life. Use caution when snorkeling and Swimming. Sometimes there are powerful waves on any beach . Caution, please!

This beach is awesome. It is close to resorts, has all the facilities and is just beautiful. We held our Water Bucket Challenge here and spent the rest of the day just having fun. It is easy to miss but once you find it, you will go back time and time again.

Perfect for outrigger canoeing, snorkeling (saw 6 green sea turtles one morning), bodysurfing, hanging out and watching the sunset. Outrageously awesome!!!

my wife and I and our 5 month old son came here several times during our week on Maui. We really enjoyed ourselves here. If you come early enough you can get a place in the shade. Which was one of the reasons we kept coming back. Neither of us had really snorkled before but having the chance to swim... More
