The new Andaz hotel has taken over what used to be a nice beach. Now it is just covered with their umbrellas, loungers, kayaks, etc. Hardly anywhere for non-guests to sit. Bye, bye paradise.

After spending a lot of time at some other beaches known for snorkeling, we tried Mokapu Beach for the first time. What an awesome beach! Great coral reef that has lots of fish, and other sea creatures to watch, even an occasional sea turtle! Very pretty beach to sit and relax, not a huge shore break makes it great for... More

As long as there isn't a storm that has just passed, or is on the way (resulting in the water churning up the sand and reduced visibility), Mokapu offers some interesting coral reefs right near the shore, and the chance to see all sorts of marine life, including sea turtles. The shore-break is not as violent as at Big Beach,... More

This beach connects to two perfect beaches (ulua and Keewapaku). All three are perfect gems. This place does not get as crowded as Ulua. The Hotel Andaz will soon be fronting this lovely little beach.... hopefully will not be too crowded. I would stay at the hotel just to have such each access to this amazing beach... I spent a... This is a nice beach and offers a tiny bit of shade. Often times you can find a patch of sand to have all to yourself since most people pass this beach up. The coastal path goes north and south right through it, so if you can't find a spot on Ulua, walk a little further and you will find... More

We drove south along the Maui coast looking for the beautiful beaches promised by the guidebooks and ended up here. We started at Wailea Beach, but it was so hot and crowded there that we walked north along the beach path until we ended up here. There weren't a lot of people and there was shade and grass above the... More

If you find yourself in Kihei on one of those windy days that the sand is just beating against your skin. Hop in the car and go south. Take the South Kihei road until it ends at a round about and park in the little shore access parking there (you will see Ekah Village). It is a simple walk down... More

This beach is right in front of the new hotel under construction in Wailea. It is not crowded right now and most people go to the beach right next to it Ulua Beach Park. It's a great beach for families as the water is calm, the snorkeling is good and there are interesting bits of lava rock that pop up... More

I actually preferred Mokapu to Ulua even though they are right next to each other. We went during the late afternoon when it was still crowded on Ulua. There appeared to be more space at Mokapu, even though it was front of the hotel. We enjoyed a nice two hours there and lots of photos. Less rocky as well.

The Beach was nice, not sure it was worth the special trip to see that beach exactly. Made the special trip because of the promised turtle snorkeling. We may have hit the area at the wrong time of year... water was too murky for snorkeling. Beach was average.
