A very relaxed city by the sea - we spent a few pleasant hours here strolling around this colonnaded square with art galleries and cafes.

The city is dubbed La Perla del Sur [Pearl of the South]. Cienfuegos literally translates to "One Hundred fires". The entire place is a UNESCO Heritage Site. The picturesque square is a feast of restored buildings some of which you can go inside. I particularly like the Terry Tomas Theatre. There is a large pleasant pedestrianised square in the middle with a band stand and gardens.

This was the main reason I wanted to visit Cienfuegos. The plaza is beautiful, by far the best town square that I had seen during my visit to Cuba, not to mention clean as well. I wish that the three city tour that I booked through Viajes Cubanacan, would have allowed more time than just 40 minutes in this plaza.
