The home was great but the tour guide was so funny and entertaining that it definately made the home tour more enjoyable. We have seen several tours here but Barney was our favorite tour guide just wish he could have been the tour guide for all the homes!!! He was very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic!!!

Now owned and operated by the NPS. The guide, from upper Michigan, gave an excellent tour that really got you to know the family and all the twists and turns. Exterior renovation going on. Some cool furnishing to see. Slave story well told as well. Lot and Lots of photos of the real people made this an excellent "first person"... More

I've toured many historic homes, especially in the South, and I have never enjoyed a home tour more than this one. The house is set up almost completely with furnishings from the original, first owners, and the quality and quantity of authentic pieces on display is amazing. The tour lasted about an hour, and the Park Service gentleman that led... More

It might be that we were there during Spring Pilgrammage, but the tour seemed a bit antiseptic, not bad, you just could tell it was a national park guide with memorized lines and not the owner of the house. I'm also somewhat certain that the vertical blinds are not period correct. The house itself is beautiful inside, but the outside... More

Our guide was really knowledgeable and told the story of the family who owned and lived in the house - a real story of the deep south of the USA. Go to Melrose House

This old mansion is wonderful. The grounds are so pretty with all the old oak trees. There is a restaurant on the grounds. Worth a trip to see this old home.

This is a great old plantation home to tour and it happened to be free the day we were there. The tour guide was excellent and he was a riot! Be sure to put this home on your agenda.

Pretty, but once you have seen one antebullum Greek Revival home, you have seen them all.

NPS is doing some work on the house - but it is open and most interesting. I was disappointed in the grounds - but NPS allowing it to go more toward its original state and many of the original plantings are comming up and showing off original owners plans. Also NPS has researched the grounds and are putting in bed... More
