The round trip as o.k., but there was no time to do anything in Hill City. You can not eat or see the town in 45 minutes. The people that boarded in Hill City only had 15 minutes in Keystone before the train left. more

I went on this trip as I have a fascination for old trains. There wasn't assigned seating so that meant alot of people were pushing and shoving to get what they figured were prime spots. That was somewhat annoying as I was travelling with elderly people who could not move as fast or were as mobile. The trainride itself was... more

At the station it was exciting watching the trains hook up and the steam from the engine in the air. The actual train was nice as well.. However, the ride offered 1 deer and a bunch of trees. Not really much to look at. A couple of historical buildings and that was it. Go to Custer State Park, for the... more

We took the train from Hill City to Keystone in July of 2009. We got off and spent two hours in Keystone. Keystone is very run down and would recommend staying on the train and ride the train back to Hill City. The announcer gave good information along the way. The scenic view was great!! They come around and offer... more

Rode the fireworks express on July 3, 2009 to watch the fireworks at Mount Rushmore. The event is well run and includes champagne and soda with popcorn on the ride up. A box lunch with sandwich etc was provided at the viewing area which is at the KbarS Lodge. The fireworks express was our way to avoid the traffic and... more

This is not a scenic tour because most of the houses have trash, junk piled up near the tracks. Most of the wildlife you see is deer and you will see a ton more on the drive in Custer state park for a lot less money. This is a waste of money. more

Nice train ride from Keystone to Hill City. Probably a one time thing but not too expensive. The very funny man along the way was worth the admission. more

My family took the train in the middle of July. We did one of the night rides which was really cool. We were able to take our own little picnic dinner from the snack shop on the ride with us. We saw a lot of deer on the ride, which the train employees said was common for that time of... more

If all you want is a trip to say you rode on a train, then this is the trip for you. If you are looking for scenic views, then save your money and drive the "scenic route" to Hill City from Keystone. The train crosses the road 14 times on the way to Hill City. My husband and I took... more

If you are looking for a view of old mining town, this is the ride for you. It is a two hour train ride with beautiful views. It isn't much more than that. more
