Snow everywhere, clean road, no heavy traffic so going for a drive in this area is a real medicine for stress especially those who work and live in a very fast pace environment like me :)

To think that someone carved this out is just unfathomable to me. It is really breathtaking to see. The monument with the surrounding mountains, rocks, hills and nature is really beautiful. Time stands still for a while when you are somewhere like this. Its really serene and quiet. If i lived in this area i would frequent it often. You... More

Despite the grandeur of the carvings, I found Mount Rushmore a bit of a let down. Primarily because of park rules. They take all of the fun out of exploring one of the most beautiful locations in our country by keeping you tied to the Presidential path. There are wandering deer trails all over the place, large boulders lying around... More

So there's a few stairs on this trail. It's really quite easy unless you have knee or other problems walking. The view is unmatchable and worth the effort. If you find it difficult, go at your own pace; it's not a race so enjoy the experience and don't worry about how long it takes you to get there (completed in... More

There is a trail that leads you closer to the monument. Surprisingly, lots of people dont take the time to do the trail. Take it, spend a bit more time in the park, get closer to the monument.

My husband had never visited Mount Rushmore and when I visited in high school, I had the dad who refused to pay the $$ to go into the park so we had to view the monument from the road (after driving from KY to South Dakota) so we were determined to have the full experience. We opted to forego the... More

If you're not too out of shape, I would recommend the whole trail. There is a lot of steps which could make the whole trail difficult for some. The views of the monument is much closer, but there are some distant views that are quite impressive too. Great time of the year, as you can avoid the crowd's and have... More

Short walk, with stairs. Good for kids and adults. Each president is highlighted on their own, with a nice view of their face through the trees. Interesting to see something like this up close! Entry is free, you have to pay for parking.

Just be warned that if you do the Presidential Trail there are about 450 steps you have to do if you take the whole thing. The trail starts out nice and flat and easy, but just when you pass directly under Mt. Rushmore, there are a lot of steps down....remember, if you go down the steps, you have to come... More
