It can be hot and long, but this trail shows you some very up close and differing views of the monument. You will think you've "seen it" from the distance, but as you hike the trail you'll see all that you would have missed. You paid the money, hike your butt up there and see it up close.

Was not sure if this was going to be of any real benefit but it did give a closer view of the faces and helped to appreciate the work that has gone in to creating them. Did not take the rangers tour though.

The walk was grand meandering through the "wilderness". You often caught a glimpse of the monument while walking. Eventually, coming to a clearing, the whole thing was visible. Getting, closer and closer actually got me more and more excited while my wife became emotional. At 67 it did become a bit much and we took the nature trail back without... More

Get and up close and personal view of the presidents. Neat cave you can go into and see the site from many angles which proved to create some great photos.

If you're already visiting Mount Rushmore, this trail is a must. The trail takes you along the foot of the sculpture, elaborating on the history of the presidents and their sculptures, all accented with great quotes from the presidents and their sculptors. The hike isn't too strenuous, and the vistas of the surrounding landscape are beautiful, in addition the view... More

Better view of the faces. Be prepared for lots of stairs. In one area you can single out each face and take a picture of your favorite.

It was a part of the Mt Rushmore trip and the walk gives a complete feel about the place. There's a information and exhibit area. You might want to go and learn about Borglum and how the magnificent sculptures were made.

You've come this far, you have to do the trail. As you view the mountain, start the trail on the left- this will allow you to walk down the stairs versus up. My daughter counted the steps, but stopped at 100. Lots of great views and interesting information along the trail.
