We were hoping to visit the Route 66 museum, but it was closed due to lack of volunteers. You really have to give these volunteers in WARM four stars just for doing what they do. Friendly & helpful folks, they made our visit a good one. Take a look at the Harvey House & outside display of trains while you're... More

I missed the museum, wrong day, but the free access outdoors display is a good appetite wetter. The Santa Fe loco has been an icon of American railroads to me since my first model railway in 1960. There are only a few large pieces on display outside and the railroad station building is an impressive piece of architecture in its... More

I live in Barstow and visit here often. I bring friends and family when they visit us. It's very interesting!

On display outside the museum is a collection of preserved locomotives and cabooses from the Santa Fe and Union Pacific companies. Included is a rare FP45 and unique EMC powered Baldwin switch engine, all in the pleasant gardens of the Barstow Depot. Inside is a well stocked souvenir shop and collection of local railroad relics.

By no means an all day adventure. Next to the Route 66 museum, it contains many displays of rail history. Including retired cars outside. A treat for anyone interested in trains. But for those not Dr. Sheldon Cooper minded, they may find it less than thrilling. Still, you can't beat the price!

BAD: it is only open 3 days a week GOOD: a lot of rail cars and locomotives are on outside tracks so can be watched when the museum is not open.

The railroad museum located in the old Historic Harvey House in Barstow is on the other end from the Route 66 Mother Load Museum. We really came for the Route 66 museum and decided to see the railroad museum while we were there. The museum has several old train cars in the parking lot and some interesting displays inside. If... Set next to the railway track, in what use to be a Harvey House, it's a lovely museum about Railroad history. It is free entrance, they do ask for a donation, but up to you to pay what you choose. Its easily done, ( I would say I move at a slightly faster than average pace) in less than a... More

We had not planned on stopping here on our trip but after spending a night listening to the rail cars being rearranged decided we wanted to check it out. There were several rooms filled with railroad memorabilia as well as some railcars parked outside. This is where we learned about dated nails that railroads use (they've got an entire room of... Absolutely incredible amount of rolling stock and pictures, old documents and such. Employees very enthusiastic about Railroading and History, especially of the Harvey House!
