Great story attached to this church. Apparently when Sherman took Atlanta, and ordered the city to be burned, a priest, Fr. O'Reilly, influenced Sherman not to burn the church by telling him Union soldiers would desert if ordered to destroy the church. Apparently, some soldiers protected the church; in addition, a couple of other churches were also spared and Atlanta's... More

This church had some interesting plaques outside to read about this history but that's about all we could do. The doors were locked. It was only the way to the Capitol building so we stopped and read. Children would not appreciate it.

Attended services here several times. The parishioners are pretty warm. or me, the service was a bit flat. Its not an especially beautiful church, by Catholic standards. Pretty standard mass experience all in all.

This is a beautiful Catholic Church with a unique past entrenched in the Siege of Atlanta and Gen. Sherman's famous march to the sea where he burned everything to the ground. When the church had a major fire in the 1900's taking the roof with it, Atlantas rose up to support the refurbishing of this historic church. In the renovation... More

A must for Catholics and history lovers alike. The first Catholic Church built in Atlanta, back when it was called Terminus ( Walking Dead lovers delight !). The building is beautifully designed with a red brick façade. Inside the high ceiling is painted in portraits of many Saints. The nave features a high altar, evoking the pre-Vatican II counsel era.... More

I enjoy taking photographs of places of worship throughout the United States. So, I hoped to capture some photos of this historic structure. When I arrived, the front doors were locked. I was able to enter a side door. I was permitted to enter the church and allowed to take photographs for over an hour. They even turned all the... More

Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is the paragon of simple beauty. The church may lack the grandeur and the scale of a Catholic cathedral, but the Shrine nonetheless does not shy in serenity and majesty. Whether you are a Catholic or not, this historical church should be on your list of attractions to visit especially if you are in... More

I attended a special Mass observing the Martin Luther King commemoration and I enjoyed my visit. Msgr. Gracz is a superb individual. I had visited on another occasion at which he was the Mass celebrant and he was definitely insightful and presided at a very simple and beautiful Mass that was spiritually moving! Truly a great place especially for visitors... More

This is a nice looking church but I couldn't figure out how to get inside, so it's not a very long tourist attraction.
