The building has spiraling staircases, huge columns, a brick atrium and windows looking out onto the forest that it borders. The exhibits are spectacular and include a life-sized kaleidoscope, a skeleton of the largest dinosaur ever discovered, an IMAX theater and a "Walk Through Time in Georgia," a story of the earth's develoment, complete with sound effects and recreated landscapes of a swamp, cavern, marsh and plateau. « less

We took our 8 year old twins here this past weekend and while there's nothing horribly wrong with the museum, there's also nothing spectacular about it either. Thanks to our AAA discount we got a discount but at $68 for a family of four, I could think of other attractions we probably would have enjoyed more. I expected more involved... more

After reading some of the reviews I had to tell all those that haven't explored the museum to the fullest to give it a chance. We lived in Atlanta for 10 years and frequented this museum and still stop by when we visit our friends. 1st of all, check out the floors. My friend is the one that installed those... more

The Georgia natural history exhibits are poorly lit and really need updating. There were three exhibits/activity centers which seemed newer and were geared towards specific age group (preschool and under 10 years). Not much there for adults. IMAX movie was cool. Nice walking trails in woods around museum. more

If you don't expect much, you can enjoy this museum. I had time to kill and took my time really checking things out. I enjoyed myself, but I would not go to Atlanta just for this museum. If you compare it to the Smithsonian, which is free and much much better, you will be very disappointed. It looks to be... more

This isn't a bad natural history museum, just average. The Walk Through Time in Georgia exhibit and the Giants of the Mesozoic were the only highlights to me. There weren't many exhibits all together. If you have been to Natural History Museums in Chicago and NYC, this will probably be a let down and not worth it. But if you... more

We just visited the Fernbank this past Saturday. Our family of four only did the museum and paid$ 56.00. It was not worth it to my husband and myself, but the boys said they enjoyed it. They were having reptile day so that was interesting. Our boys love animals. I'm glad that was going on because that was the most... more

On their website there is a statement about "the largest museum of natural history", I agree with previous poster that states this must be in reference to square footage. There is not a lot of different exhibits. If you do not do the IMAX theater you will be very disappointed with your overall experience. They do have the largest dinosaur... more

The Fernbank is indeed located in a beautiful building and in beautiful grounds. That said, I got the impression that the only ones who visit this museum due to its location outside the mainstream tourist beat is neighborhood children with their nannies (very upscale neighborhood) and school groups. The place is gorgeous and the exhibits are thoughtfully put together. The... more

I recently went for there "Martini Fridays and IMAX" event held on friday evening. If you get there during happy hour (5:30-6:30) you don't have to pay a $5 cover charge. The dinner that was available was much too expensive for small portions. The drinks were expansive and there was a live jazz band. The atmosphere was night right, the... more
