first 'big' cave experience - loved the small group size of 12, hand held lanterns, guide gave explanations in English & Spanish...no photos allowed, but postcards and other material available to purchase. Some steep slippery sections, no recommended for those with walkers, canes or anyone afraid of the dark. This is a natural cave without illumination or music. More

Closest you'll ever get to prehistoric paintings. It's way out in the gorgeous Ronda countryside. The grandson of the man who discovered the paintings is still giving the tours. He's obviously well-versed in prehistory and does an excellent job with the tour. Groups are kept small. One interesting thing is that the tour is only lighted with kerosene lamps! More

For reasons of conservation, there are no longer many places in the world where you can simply show up and see ancient cave paintings (20,000 BC and earlier!) like this. But you can do so at Cueva de la Pileta, not far from Ronda on the way to Sevilla. It is absolutely worth a detour if you have a car.... More

These caves owned by the same family for generations are not your typical tourist trap; no celebrity concerts held here. Limited daily trips to see untouched interior. No photographs allowed, navigation tricky, but purity is worth it. Not easily accessible. Must be up to walking, hiking, slippery stone stairs. More

The caves are well worth a visit if you find yourself in the Ronda region with a car. Stunning ancient cave paintings aside, what made this a real highlight for us was the adventurous spirit of descending (and ascending) deep into the cave system with only hand-held gas lanterns to light the way. Lanterns often became hot to hold and... More

A very interesting series of caves to visit with astonishing cave drawings and the tour is given by the descendants of the family who re-discovered the cave many years ago. Absolutely worth seeing. More

Seeing prehistoric cave paintings was on my life list. Because the pigments can be damaged by people (directly, as well as by mold attracted by the interior climate changes resulting from people's breath and the infrastructure supporting tourists) most can only be visited scientists. One of the few still open to the public is located a short drive from Ronda... More

Not crowdy and a world to discover. The guide has a special surprise that will make you laugh. If you want to go the adventure way visit the Cueva del Gato, not far away but needs equipment. More

Great day out here. Journey to Nerja then on to the caves was a delight as the weather was great. The caves are amazing to see but you cannot use flash photography inside which is a pitty. Well worth a visit. More

Most of the great caves in Europe are now closed to the casual visitor so this is probably one of the last of those caves now open on a regular basis. I've visited it many times with friends and family and it never ceases to amaze me every time. In high season you do want to get there early as... More
