Yes, the theater is old and has tight seating. But come on now if you want modern seating and fancy seating this ain't it! It's experiences in a century old building with walls that if they could talk, well who knows! The play "Sister Act" was well written and the performance of the actors was beyond my expectations! The staff... More

Our first visit to this fine old theater; it was built in the 1920s in the moorish revival style, was recently restored to its original elaborate appearance and it's gorgeous. We saw the Broadway musical comedy Sister Act, performed by the national touring company, and it was a hoot. Only problem was the seating--after climbing a zillion steps to get... More

Having a season subscription has been a frustrating experience. The show selection has been entertaining, but not especially provocative. The house management makes this venue less than enjoyable. Ushers talk during performances & continually march up & down the aisles during performances. They obstruct views & destroy major moments & then there is the issue of allowing patrons to bring... Went to see 'The Book of Mormon' last month with my son. We purchased tickets the week prior, so were seated in the second-to-last row. The seats are comfortable, but quite narrow. Binoculars would have been nice. This was my first time at the Altria, so I cannot compare it to the pre-renovated appearance. But it was quite beautiful. As... More

This theater was constructed in 1927 and was just recently completed with a $63 million restoration. All the work completed provided a state of the art sound system, improved the electrical, heating and cooling systems, plumbing and detailed restoration of the walls and ceilings. After sitting in the orchestra level, grand tier and balcony level, I can attest that there... More

Tried to purchase tickets directly from the box office to see "Book of Mormons" . No such luck. No one answered advertised box office phone number after several tries on different days then the website for the box office defaulted to ETIX, a ticket reseller. I thought I purchased "very good" seats for $125 plus a service charge of $19... More

My wife and I went to see "Book of Mormon". The play was interesting. The music was beautiful. The facility is first class. As all we Americans keep getting bigger; more space would have been nice; but I understand.

Love the redone interior but I can not understand why the seats could not be made more comfortable. We need theater in Richmond but I am inclined to travel to ny or dc when I want to see a performance just because the Altria theater is so uncomfortable.

Sidewalks and marquees were finished just before the opening of Book of Mormon so both outside and inside were in great shape. Inside is impressive. Concession choices were minimal, but I would think that will improve (a person on my row was eating popcorn). No line at the rest room off the orchestra seating before the performance, but I don't... This past week, the Altria Theatre reopened after being closed for renovation. I love the beautiful tile, and am pleased this is one of the decorative items restored and preserved so future generations can enjoy. I believe there are still opportunities for restrooms, especially for ladies. Our seat as in the orchestra area, and at break upon exiting the theatre,... More
