A national and state historic landmark, this performing arts center was originally opened in 1928 as an elegant and lavishly designed Loews movie palace and has since been restored to its former splendor. Performances run the gamut from opera, symphony and concerts to comedy, song, children's entertainment and family shows.

CenterStage is a refurbished movie theatre (a Loews) from the 1930's. Now it hosts a variety of shows, concerts, etc. It is gorgeous inside; one could visit for the architecture alone. Also, it is reported to be haunted, but I've never seen a ghost in the many visits I've made over the years.

I have been lucky enough to see a few performances here from the Richmond Symphony and Richmond Ballet - so much talent and a beautiful theater to experience it in. Highly recommend The Nutcracker!

The Nutcracker was great, professional, funny, sad and overwhelmingly wonderful. But beware of row J, First Dress Circle. The seats were squeezed up against row in front of us. I'm 5'7" and my knees dug into the seats in front of us. The seating in row J was not made for adults, period. The seats in front of us had... More

My wife and I took four of our grandchildren to see a presentation of the Nutcracker. We are both tall, I had a total knee replacement and my wife is scheduled for one next week. We bought tickets months ago and very specifically told the ticketing agent we wanted tickets on the aisle for each of us with three tickets... More

Every year I attend the Messiah at Richmond CenterStage, sitting dress circle, first row center. The space post-renovation is beautiful, with the colors, lights, and statuary looking splendid. I even think the seats are more comfortable but, most importantly, the women's bathroom on the second level is renovated, large, and totally manageable. Wonder venue.

My family and I visited the Carpenter Theatre to see Peppa Pig. They opened the doors on time and the lobby area was spacious and clean. The actual theatre was very nice. It had charm to it because it looked old. However, the seats were comfortable, and the sound and lighting were great. My only complaint, which is not the... More

I like this venue, its not too small but small enough that watching comedian's there it seemed more personable. I was invited to attend the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Concert today at 4pm but was not able to arrive in time. When I arrived it was already 4:20 and the attendant on the lobby told me to wait in the lobby since the orchestra already started or I can stand outside and listen to the music. So I prefer... Excellent venue for ballet productions, both from a sound and visual prospective. Parking for heavily attended events sometimes a bit of an issue so plan to arrive early.

A wonderful venue to attend any performance. The restoration of the old movie palace into a state of the art theatre is incredible. I highly recommend.
