This beautiful and well designed museum has a wonderful collection of art, ranging from pre-columbian, Egyptian, Asian and Greco-Roman art through to art in the latter half of the 20th. Century. They have a small but excellent German Expressionist collection. They have two contemporary shows that gives a glimpse into the making of their works. We at eat Best cafe... More

The VMFA is huge, with something for every taste in art ... modern, classical, painting, sculpture, mixed media, pre-Columbian, Baroque, you name it. We spent a wonderful couple of hours here and it easily could have been a couple of days. The museum's excellent 3rd floor restaurant, Amuse, served a fabulous lunch, too. Well worth some time!

We were surprised by the quality and variety of the exhibits The parkland behind the gallery is a pleasant walk and the cafe serves a nice lunch. Went for an hour spent half the day.

My wife and I try to visit art museums whenever possible on our trips. We had heard a lot about this museum of fine arts so we were excited to visit it. From the time we entered the doors, with the very nice staff there to help us, we knew we were going to like this. The Fabrege exhibit was... More

This museum houses art from several centuries from the Egyptian, Greek and Roman to contemporary artists. There are some rooms that show interesting African and Asian art. It also shows a collection of old English silver and Faberge eggs. It is free. There was a part which houses Art Nouveau and Art Deco which is temporarily closed because of some... More

We arrived around 3 p.m. and found that admission was free for the last two hours of the day. There is so much to see and helpful, knowledgeable docents to direct you to areas. When I mentioned that I had just cataloged some World War I posters, the docent directed me to a World War I print exhibit in another... More

Gorgeous museum set in the heart of Richmond's Fan District. General admission is free every day and special exhibits can be viewed for an additional fee, or are free with a membership. For a one time visitor, make sure you do a little research in advance, as the scale of the museum can be a little overwhelming; it would be... More
