VCU school of the Arts is a separate college , not a university department. Complete undergrad and graduate fine arts program. Nationally respected faculty most of whom are practicing artists. Tuition less than half of private schools, even less for Virginia residents. Part of Richmond' fan district, located in center of city.

I took graduate courses at VCU, and it's a great school. The only thing is it's just so big. Being one who graduated from private schools, and attended a small liberal art's college VCU's size was a bit overwhelming. However, the professors (I had anyway) are more than willing to help with anything. :-)

One of the tops in the nation. Great culture of creativity. Richmond has a burgeoning art scene that VCU feeds.

My son is a freshman in the first year foundation program. He has worked hard, skipping meals and sleep more than once to meet demanding deadlines. I think the classes are tough, but good. I see that he has learned to hone some of his weaker skills. My frustration is that the school is not transparent regarding their process for... More

I just spent loads of money sending my daughter through this program, which is very good. Tuition became extremely high after her junior year (30% increase) and more student loan activity, but such is education. The problems she expressed is the need for areas of study to be able to cross-over without limitations. For example, she was a Kinetic Imaging... More
