Maymont is a 100-acre American estate, an extraordinary gift given to us by James and Sallie Dooley who lived here from 1893 to 1925. Whether strolling in the gardens, touring the mansion or watching river otters play, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Having large grounds, one is never far from a fellow human playing, jogging, having family time, visiting the animals, simply strolling or enjoying the grassy lawn. The Japanese gardens are great to imagine being in Tokyo with all it's many stepping stones and pool of coi fish. There are bears, and otters, and plant life in abundance. There are trails... More

Historic home, park, gardens, and small petting zoo. The home is well preserved and the guides are well educated in the family history and the home. The gardens are very natural and like those of the family that would live in this home. There is lots of paths to roam and outdoor beauty as well as the family petting zoo.

Grounds are free, donation requested for mansion tour. The tour is enjoyable. Otherwise, make sure you have comfortable shoes for walking -- the estate has multiple gardens on (I believe) 100 acres. There is a small aquarium for an additional fee. Kids would enjoy.

Maymont is a delightful place for walking among formal gardens and open fields. Note there are stairs to climb if you want to maximize your experience, but not necessary. It provides a representative slice of Richmond and its culture. There is a mansion available for touring at an extra cost. Absolutely worth doing for a view of 19th Century Richmond.... More

I have enjoyed Maymont since 1978, as a visitor, volunteer and member. My son always enjoyed climbing the mature trees, as a child. My favorite spot is the Japanese Garden. Raking is fun way to burn calories in the fall at Maymont. Truly a jewel in RVA.

Maymont has many beautiful aspects and meets a variety of ages. Couples can go and take romantic photographs for their engagement or just stroll their beautiful gardens. Families can see the gardens, water features and the animals. Schools come for their educational programs for students. Finding this park can be a challenge if you are not from the area, but... Great place to visit, picnic, play and acoustic, see historic landmarks, and share time with someone special. There is always something interesting going on.

I love Maymont. Many fond memories of days spent walking around the park. The Japanese gardens are beautiful.

Nice, pretty and great gardens. However; nothing you would not find in any very small city. Because Richmond has nothing else as far as tourist attractions, this makes it a great place on that alone.

Maymont is a great place to go for a walk with or without kids. I love the fact that it is free and out of town guests always enjoy it. The nature center does have a small fee but it is worth it. There is always something to see no matter the season.
